Show notes
Welcome to Episode 231 of the True North Nerds podcast. This week, Brent and Ryan hold down the fort for a two-host episode packed with nerd news, comic shop talk, streaming updates, Firefly speculation, and a pair of Geek Picks.
Nerd News
The episode opens with Ryan and Brent discussing a reported Bruce Campbell health update before moving into lighter territory with the final trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy movie. They talk about Yoshi, Super Mario Bros. 2 characters, Donald Glover’s voice role, and the strange rabbit holes that come with Canadian animation trivia.
The news section also covers the first look at Lanterns, including fan reactions to Hal Jordan, John Stewart, the Green Lantern Corps, and the show’s gritty direction. The hosts then dig into Arnold Schwarzenegger’s possible return as King Conan, with Christopher McQuarrie attached to write and direct.
Comic Shop Talk
Brent and Ryan shift into a broader discussion about comic book shops, collectors, and the modern speculator market. Using the buzz around Dork #1 as a springboard, they talk about limited print runs, Image Comics, independent creator ownership, variants, facsimiles, and the difference between buying comics as a collector versus buying purely to flip.
What Ryan Is Watching and Reading
Ryan gives updates on what he has been watching and reading, including the live-action One Piece series on Netflix, The Last Kingdom, War Machine, and the current Transformers comics. The hosts also touch on the growing Skybound/Energon Universe lineup and the looming threat to Ryan’s wallet.
Firefly Returning?
The big follow-up of the episode is the latest Firefly revival tease. Brent and Ryan discuss the Nathan Fillion-led social media posts, the Funko Pop false alarm, and the clues pointing toward a possible animated continuation. The episode includes the update that an animated Firefly project is being pitched and that the last missing piece is finding it a home.
Geek Picks of the Week
- Ryan recommends Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral crossover, featuring Spider-Man, Mary Jane as Venom, Eddie Brock, Carnage, and the new threat Torment.
- Brent recommends revisiting Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral, especially as a complete album experience on vinyl.

Theme Song
Kirby Crackle (00:00:29 - 00:01:24): Set your phasers to sexy. Hey you, reading comic books. Like the way you look. Like the way you always mess with your hair. Playing PS3. It’s just you and me. In my dreams and I want to go to bed. I like you. I like the way you’re ignoring me. So such a face as a sexy. It’s the way you read your books that affects me. And when you whisper the Rocky in my ear, you make me feel—
Welcome and Opening Chatter
Brent (00:01:24 - 00:01:52): All right, starting in 3. 2, 1. Welcome, loyal listeners, to another episode of True North Nerds. Yeah, tonight it’s two of us because everybody has plans, including Ryan and I. We just don’t have plans this evening, so unfortunately, uh, it just ends up being Ryan and I. So, uh, hi Ryan. Hi Brent, how are you?
Ryan (00:01:52 - 00:01:53): How was your day off doing?
Brent (00:01:54 - 00:01:56): Good. I got—
Ryan (00:01:56 - 00:02:02): How was your day off doing? I have bad— I’m bad with words today. How was your day off doing?
Brent (00:02:02 - 00:02:05): Day off doing, doing good.
Ryan (00:02:05 - 00:02:09): Doing good. Ooh, toys good. I like fun things.
Brent (00:02:09 - 00:02:13): I like fun. Yeah. All right. No complaints.
Ryan (00:02:14 - 00:02:16): That’s good. I went to the dentist.
Brent (00:02:16 - 00:02:18): Oh, I’m going to the dentist tomorrow.
Ryan (00:02:18 - 00:02:20): Oh, I have no cavities.
Brent (00:02:21 - 00:02:22): Well, that’s good.
Ryan (00:02:22 - 00:02:28): Yeah, this time. So I treated myself and I went and picked up toys.
Brent (00:02:29 - 00:02:39): Yes. Well, treated yourself slash it was there waiting for you and you kind of had to anyways. Yes.
Ryan (00:02:40 - 00:02:40): Good timing.
Brent (00:02:41 - 00:02:45): Yes. Which I’m sure you will hear about in a future episode of The Collectiverse.
Ryan (00:02:45 - 00:02:46): Yes.
Brent (00:02:47 - 00:02:54): So we will start off the show as we always do with news. So what do you got for us this time, Ryan?
News: Bruce Campbell, Super Mario, Lanterns, and King Conan
Ryan (00:02:55 - 00:03:38): All right. Well, we’re going to start off with a bit of a downer note. Um, within, I guess, after we’ve recorded our last episode, uh, actor Bruce Campbell, uh, put out a big, uh, really, uh, press release that, um, he’s announced he has an incurable cancer and he’s going to be taking, um, some time off from the con circuit and from doing things to, uh, to, to get some help and heal and get things under control. So he’s had to cancel some of the appearances he already had scheduled for the summer. But he’s doing all this, this treatment for the hope that he’ll be healthy enough to get out and promote the new movie that he has that’s going to be releasing this fall.
Brent (00:03:40 - 00:03:52): Yes, which is— I was reading up on it. It’s kind of like a romance film, like, or a, like, kind of an adult, like, acne Acty film. Acty film. Um, that he wrote.
Ryan (00:03:53 - 00:03:53): Yeah.
Brent (00:03:54 - 00:04:12): That he wrote and directed and, uh, stars in. Like, and basically, um, it was interesting. I remember that movie Iron Lung that, uh, myself and the fake daughter went and saw. I did a very brief review of it, uh, either last week or two weeks ago.
Ryan (00:04:12 - 00:04:13): The submarine movie.
Brent (00:04:14 - 00:04:39): Yeah, so, um, I read in the interview where he’s talking about it, um, like he’s like, I love that guy who made Iron Lung because he proved for the rest of us that we can still do this and get a movie out there without major distributing. I haven’t seen it, the movie may be a piece of shit, but that guy helped us out a lot when trying to get this movie out to theaters.
Ryan (00:04:39 - 00:04:39): Nice.
Brent (00:04:40 - 00:05:25): So, uh, yeah, typical Bruce fashion. Um, I, it’s— I was talking about this, uh, earlier today, and, uh, um, it’s, you know, it eventually— it will probably get him, but depending on what it is, he hasn’t made it public. He basically just sort of stated it to get ahead of things. Um, yeah, because rumors would start swirling with him like just canceling a bunch of con appearances because he’s very good about taking those professional obligations seriously. Um, yeah, it’s a— it’s— did you ever read his book? Oh, you, you should.
Ryan (00:05:25 - 00:05:28): I know words are hard. I need pictures.
Brent (00:05:28 - 00:05:34): Yeah, it’s a pretty easy read biography. Um, it’s called If Chins Could Kill: Life of a B-Movie Actor.
Ryan (00:05:36 - 00:05:36): Oh, okay.
Brent (00:05:37 - 00:06:06): Um, I’m trying to remember where it ends. He wrote it quite a long time ago. I’ve got a hardcover of it, but the best part of it, or one of the best parts of it, is one, he is completely honest. Like, it is a great biography and a great look of what it’s like to be a working actor because it’s like, you know, I did this movie and it did okay, but then the next week or two weeks later I was working a security job until I got the next movie.
Ryan (00:06:07 - 00:06:10): That’s why he was so good as a doorman in Spider-Man 2.
Brent (00:06:11 - 00:07:03): Yeah, but the— that and the, um, there’s a fake introduction to it where it’s about the Raimi brothers writing the introduction, and it basically is like, ah, why would we want to do that? And it’s like, I guess it’s supposed to be the sound of a tape rec— the audio from a tape recorder, transcription from a tape recorder, and it’s like Sound of Sam and Ted rifling through desk drawers. It’s a good read. I’m sure there’s got to be an ebook version of it out there, but I’m sure there is, or probably available at your local library. Yeah, all the best to Bruce. I am, um, the— so I think I’ve mentioned this on the podcast, I have come to the conclusion that I do have one Bruce Campbell autograph.
Ryan (00:07:04 - 00:07:04): Yes.
Brent (00:07:05 - 00:08:09): In the— this is very similar to the story that I have about my Christopher Lambert autograph. In the early days of using the internet at my high school, I discovered Bruce’s website, like it was officialbrucecampbell.com or something like that. And there was a thing on it that like you could send away for a postcard. And it says on the website, not signed but free. So being a free mooch that I am, I put in my address and eventually I got a postcard-sized like photo of Bruce Campbell. And on the back of it, it says something for your trouble. And then there’s a scrawl. And I’ve never like— up until the last year, I’ve just always taken it that it was his assistant or something, because it said on the, the website it wouldn’t like you’re not getting an autograph, you’re just getting a free picture. But I, uh, like the, a week or two ago, I took it out and then I like looked online at versions of his signature and I’m pretty sure it’s his.
Ryan (00:08:10 - 00:08:10): So nice.
Brent (00:08:11 - 00:08:13): Yeah. So one little cool memento there.
Ryan (00:08:14 - 00:08:24): Maybe it’s one of those things where he says it’s not autographed, but it’s technically, he didn’t autograph the photo you’re getting. He just wrote his name on the back of a postcard. Yeah.
Brent (00:08:24 - 00:08:30): Or maybe he did random ones here and there. Like you weren’t guaranteed to get one, but—
Ryan (00:08:30 - 00:08:50): Yeah. Or maybe it’s one of those, he’s like, “If I put it that I’m going to sign them all, I’m going to get inundated with people asking for these things. If I say I’m not going to sign an autograph and it’s not going to be autographed, then it’s just real fans that I’m interacting with.” and I’ll sign it anyway. That’s cool.
Brent (00:08:52 - 00:08:55): Yeah. Uh, next, next.
Ryan (00:08:56 - 00:09:02): Um, on a lighter note, we got the final trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy movie.
Brent (00:09:04 - 00:09:07): Yes, I, I actually watched that this morning. Nice.
Ryan (00:09:07 - 00:09:34): Um, looks pretty good. Uh, I can’t— it’s gonna be fun. Yoshi looks to be a big part of it. Um, we got a baby, you know, a Koopa Jr. Koopa gets sprung from his prison, or, you know, it looks great. I can’t wait to watch it. Uh, the toys have started popping up at Walmart, and as much as I know I don’t need a, a Koopa Jr. in his floating little thing—
Brent (00:09:34 - 00:09:36): oh, that looks so cool.
Ryan (00:09:36 - 00:09:39): It does, doesn’t it? Like It’s a nice size.
Brent (00:09:41 - 00:09:48): And all those figures are like decent size, like they’re— and they, they’re good sculpts. Who is it who makes it? Is it Jada?
Ryan (00:09:49 - 00:09:58): I have no clue. I haven’t looked that closely. I, I, I glance at them because I know if I look too closely and get too interested, then it’s a slippery slope.
Brent (00:09:58 - 00:10:05): Yeah, because you— for full disclosure, you do have some Mario figures. You have the S.H. Figuarts, don’t you?
Ryan (00:10:06 - 00:10:08): Oh, I have the S.H. Figuarts Mario.
Brent (00:10:08 - 00:10:09): Yeah.
Ryan (00:10:09 - 00:10:20): But the other ones, the like the Luigi, the Princess, the second Mario, and a Yoshi are those ones. Uh, whoever put out those, the older figures that came in.
Brent (00:10:20 - 00:10:20): Yeah.
Ryan (00:10:20 - 00:10:22): You get them in 4-pack because—
Brent (00:10:22 - 00:10:25): yep, I got all those characters in a 4-pack and they’re the right scale, so it doesn’t matter.
Ryan (00:10:26 - 00:10:48): Exactly. So yeah, so they’re, they’re nice. That’s why I say, oh, that Koopa the Kid would be cool. Especially this pod. And like, you know, you hang it up in the corner and have it hanging from the ceiling somewhere or something. He’s like, oh, he’s just there looming. But it’s like, I even my Mario Brothers figures I have, I put them in like a little shadow box and I haven’t done shit with it. It’s like, I think it’s under my bed.
Brent (00:10:50 - 00:11:12): Now, I don’t know. Um, speaking of such things, uh, we should also mention the, the interesting character additions that we got in this trailer. That I, I was actually surprised at. Okay, that is the fact that, uh, the, the bad guys from Super Mario 2 are in this movie.
Ryan (00:11:13 - 00:11:20): Oh yes, okay. Yes, you see like almost like a casino and we got— what is it, Birdie? Is that her name? The one that shoots the eggs?
Brent (00:11:21 - 00:11:37): Yep. And King Wart, who is the, uh, the, the big bad of that game. Yes, voiced by one of my favorite character actors, Luis Guzmán. Yeah, it was, I guess most recently he was Gomez in Wednesday.
Ryan (00:11:38 - 00:11:40): Yes, that’s right. Yeah, he’s great.
Brent (00:11:42 - 00:11:56): And there was also the reveal that Donald Glover is the voice of Yoshi. So do you, do you think this means Yoshi speaks more in this movie than we have known Yoshi to talk?
Ryan (00:11:57 - 00:12:07): No, I think it’s a, you know, it’s gonna be a, you know, an I Am Groot situation. You’ll probably say Yoshi or something like that, different inflections. Yeah.
Brent (00:12:07 - 00:12:08): And tone, but that’s about it.
Ryan (00:12:09 - 00:12:18): Yeah, that’s my guess, because if memory— I don’t remember any previous incarnations of cartoons or things where Yoshi has spoken.
Brent (00:12:18 - 00:12:30): Yeah, I don’t know. Has Yoshi made it into any of the animated cartoons before? Because the last shows I remember, there’s the Super Mario Super Show.
Ryan (00:12:30 - 00:12:31): Yes.
Brent (00:12:31 - 00:12:48): And then there’s a cart, like, which was live action segments in between cartoons. And then there’s the Super Mario 3 cartoon, which is just a continuation of that. But I don’t know if there’s anything after that. Yeah, like, that’s not me saying there is— no, is or is not. I just don’t know.
Ryan (00:12:48 - 00:13:18): That’s why I kind of feel like I remember being a Super Mario World cartoon, but that could just be me making shit up. Now, the, the mind likes to play tricks on us, but, uh, yep, that’s coming our way soon. I don’t know if it’s this month or if it’s next month. I think it’s April. Yeah, I think it’s in April. I don’t know. I don’t want to mess with the feed and open up another window.
Brent (00:13:18 - 00:14:29): Oh, you are correct, good sir. Woohoo! There was a Super Mario World cartoon, and he was voiced by Canadian actor Andrew Sabiston. I’m just pulling this out of Wikipedia. Who was, uh, you— oh, here’s some real Canadian Canadiana for you. Okay, I’m trying to find out who he played, but, um, he was in a bunch of Vancouver shot shows like MacGyver and things of that Uh, is he? Oh, he is. So, um, you and I know him, and you and me. He is one of the twins from the Edison Twins. That’s it. Right now, if, if Kevin is listening to this, it’s like it’s bringing his Canadiana TV brain Yeah.
Ryan (00:14:31 - 00:14:39): And a little follow-up. I was right. Uh, the Mario movie comes out on April 1st, and that’s no joke.
Brent (00:14:40 - 00:14:57): Okay, so Super Mario World was part of a block with Captain N during the last, like, bit of Captain N. That’s why. Yep. And the voice actors are the same who did all the characters for Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. Like the cartoon version.
Ryan (00:14:59 - 00:15:00): That was a long time ago.
Brent (00:15:00 - 00:15:09): Yeah. Um, but, uh, yeah, cool. Um, wow, we went on quite a couple left turns on there.
Ryan (00:15:09 - 00:15:16): Uh, so let’s keep down that left turn. Uh, did you look at the first trailer we got for Lanterns?
Brent (00:15:17 - 00:15:18): Yes, yes, I did.
Ryan (00:15:20 - 00:15:23): Uh, it’s getting some flack online. Some people are upset.
Brent (00:15:23 - 00:15:24): Boo.
Ryan (00:15:25 - 00:15:25): Yeah, of course.
Brent (00:15:25 - 00:15:29): Who cares? Says the guy who does reviewing stuff online.
Ryan (00:15:30 - 00:16:56): Yeah. People are— well, but yeah, the things people are upset about, it appears that Hal Jordan’s costume is an actual suit. It’s not generated by the ring because you see a Green Lantern suit that looks all brown and dirty, or people are hoping maybe it’s dirty because there’s not much white on it. Hanging in the closet. And then, uh, what was the other thing? Oh, and then people are questioning— so we see as the scene starts with Hal and John in the car and they’re talking, and John’s talking about how he should be wearing the ring, he should have the ring, yada yada. And Hal calls him like a substitute teacher, that he’s just gonna be— he’s a backup, blah blah blah. And then he asked, there was a comment asked about other Lanterns. So what are they like? And he’s like, yeah, they’re all, they’re, I’m the only human. They’re all, they’re all aliens. It’s, you know, there’s even a chipmunk or a squirrel. Yeah, a squirrel. And there’s like, people are like, whoa, whoa, whoa. He’s not the only human. What about Guy? We’ve already seen Guy. Now my thought there is he just doesn’t like Guy and doesn’t count him as a, as a, as part of the Green Lantern Corps. Or maybe what we’re not getting is a part of that conversation is talking about how was it like on Oa or in space with them. And he probably say, I was the only human.
Brent (00:16:58 - 00:17:29): I, I’ve, I’ve heard a couple people theorize that there, that there are story reasons for Hal being kind of exiled back to Earth, or that there’s shit that he’s not telling John Stewart in terms of what’s going on, because it’s, um, the references that keeps getting made to the show is it’s like the superhero version of True Detective, like that first season. So maybe that’s where people are getting these ideas from.
Ryan (00:17:29 - 00:17:38): But, um, either way, it looks like it’s a kind of a, well, a, a gritty, a dirty Green Lantern series.
Brent (00:17:39 - 00:17:39): Yeah.
Ryan (00:17:40 - 00:17:55): And I’m on board. I was going to be on board anyway. It’s Green Lantern. I’ll at least give it a shot. I gave that movie a shot. I haven’t given it many shots since, but I gave it a shot. I like me some Lanterns.
Brent (00:17:55 - 00:18:04): I’m curious. And so far, the James Gunn version of everything is running pretty good.
Ryan (00:18:04 - 00:18:05): Yeah, exactly.
Brent (00:18:05 - 00:18:08): Despite the Snyder Bros that are out there.
Ryan (00:18:08 - 00:18:08): Yeah.
Brent (00:18:11 - 00:18:26): Which is funny because even Zack Snyder doesn’t want anything to do with it. That’s the thing that like brings Zack Snyder back. It’s like Zack Snyder’s done. He does not want to go back at this point. But yeah. Yeah.
Ryan (00:18:28 - 00:18:46): Uh, and my last little bit on my news list was one news, uh, that you shared to me. Arnold Schwarzenegger is talking about returning to one of his most iconic roles. He’s talking about making Conan again.
Brent (00:18:46 - 00:18:49): Yes, specifically King Conan.
Ryan (00:18:49 - 00:18:58): Yes, it’s being written and directed by Christopher McGuire, Oscar-winning writer. Well, sorry, McQuarrie. I mispronounced it.
Brent (00:18:58 - 00:18:59): No worries.
Ryan (00:18:59 - 00:18:59): I knew I was going to get it wrong.
Brent (00:19:00 - 00:19:02): That’s the one pronunciation I can do right.
Ryan (00:19:06 - 00:19:27): And yeah, so apparently he’s the— he’s started writing it. Schwarzenegger’s on board with wanting to be in it and I’m on board for seeing that. I think that bringing him back in a modern Conan would be— yeah, a made-today Conan movie would be pretty good.
Brent (00:19:28 - 00:20:51): Yeah, and it’s, it’s interesting because this isn’t the first time Schwarzenegger has toyed with this idea. Um, John Milius, who direct— wrote and directed the first Conan movie, not Conan the Destroyer but Conan the Barbarian, had an idea for a King Conan movie. Um, and I believe the script was written. Um, somebody, uh, I read somewhere It was one of the guys who used to write for Ain’t It Cool News back when they were more of a presence, said that when he first came to work for Ain’t It Cool News, the King Conan script was the thing that they passed around to the newbies to read, basically. Um, now this is going to be different, obviously, different director, different writer. Um, as part of that, Arnold is now older. So the last time that this nearly happened was, uh, right before he ended up running for governor. Ah, and then it was talked about a little bit at when he came back to acting. So where he was just like, quite frankly, he was doing weird acting stuff, not in a bad way. It was just him doing kind of whatever he wanted. He did that, uh, zombie movie May, if you ever—
Ryan (00:20:51 - 00:20:52): what I was thinking of when you said that.
Brent (00:20:53 - 00:21:15): Yeah, yeah, there was that. There was, there was a Another one that was like, uh, I think Jackie Chan is also in it too. It’s like, it’s this weird movie that I believe it was Russian financed and came out and didn’t like really go far, or was Russian-Hong Kong financed.
Ryan (00:21:15 - 00:21:17): I think I remember watching that trailer with you.
Brent (00:21:17 - 00:21:39): Yeah, and I don’t know if it ever got any kind of wide North American release, but So I, I’d be, I’d be down for it if it’s good. Um, Christopher McQuarrie is a good screenwriter. He is— the Oscar he won was for Usual Suspects. So like, that was his first movie out of the gate. Um, he’s all—
Ryan (00:21:39 - 00:21:44): he’s, uh, he’s been making Mission: Impossible movies lately, hasn’t he?
Brent (00:21:44 - 00:21:53): Yeah. And he’s also the guy who wrote, uh, wrote and directed the second Reacher movie for, uh, for Tom Cruise.
Ryan (00:21:53 - 00:21:54): Okay.
Brent (00:21:54 - 00:23:08): Yep, which I will, I will grant you that the TV show is a better Reacher than the movies were, but I still enjoyed those movies a lot. Oh yeah, they got the, they got the attitude down. He just didn’t look the part. No, was the only drawback. And he may have done the first one too, but I, I’m not sure off the top of my head. The second one I know he did. They, they brought him in to write and direct. So like, he’s no slouch. Uh, this would be a bit of a different realm for him being a big fantasy movie. Um, depending on if they— the Conan and is like Judge Dredd is there’s a lot of stuff in it and you can go multiple ways with it. Yeah, you know, like there, there’s like, you know, there is the, the action side of things where it could be just him against evil barbarians, but there’s also a lot of like magic and sorcery in those, mainly Conan hating it. But so it’s like you could go have him against like hordes of mutants and stuff like that. So yeah, I’d be— I, I am very curious to see where it all goes in the end.
Ryan (00:23:12 - 00:23:22): Um, that’s it for me. Didn’t you had something You mentioned it last night, a news item, music related.
Brent (00:23:24 - 00:23:24): Did I?
Ryan (00:23:25 - 00:23:31): You said something. I say, you asked me about it and I was like, oh, music. Remember that tomorrow.
Brent (00:23:32 - 00:23:33): And I failed.
Ryan (00:23:34 - 00:23:38): Okay, then with that said, do you have anything else?
Brent (00:23:38 - 00:23:40): Let me see if I have anything in my tiles.
Ryan (00:23:41 - 00:23:41): Okay.
Brent (00:23:44 - 00:23:46): This is great podcasting.
Ryan (00:23:46 - 00:23:52): Yep. We’re— hey, we are totally prepared for every episode. Totally prepared.
Brent (00:23:53 - 00:24:00): Yeah. Nope, that thought’s gone. Maybe it’ll come back to me at some point.
Ryan (00:24:01 - 00:24:01): No problem.
Comic Shop Talk and the Speculator Market
Brent (00:24:03 - 00:24:06): But the thing I figured, since you’re on—
Ryan (00:24:07 - 00:24:07): Yes.
Brent (00:24:08 - 00:24:14): We can talk about before we go. Is, um, you and I both work at a comics bookstore.
Ryan (00:24:15 - 00:24:15): We do.
Brent (00:24:16 - 00:25:28): And a friend of mine, uh, that we have called Denver Dave because his name is Dave and he lives in Denver, uh, brought up that he went to his local comic shop the other day and he ended up talking to somebody at the shop. I don’t know if it was the guy who worked there or what off the top of my head, but it was, uh, the, the story of Dork #1 First printing, uh, and how it’s going for mucho bucks because he had just heard of the— about the comic. Like, Dave’s not one of those guys who follows like the news about stuff like that. He, he is a comic book reader, right? He’s not a speculator. He just like, hey, that sounds cool, I want to read that. And he was like, he brought up this thing of whether it was Is it worth it to wait for the trade? Like, or like, is there going to be more printings and stuff like that? And I just kind of wanted your thoughts on a little bit on the, the speculator market, because we should say right away, like, we, you and I indirectly profit off of that market.
Ryan (00:25:28 - 00:25:29): Oh yeah, for sure.
Brent (00:25:29 - 00:25:31): Hey, you know, they spend our money.
Ryan (00:25:32 - 00:25:59): Yeah. No. And yeah. Do I buy some covers and issues of comics sometimes because I think, “Yeah, it looks interesting, but it also might be worth something someday?” Yes, guilty as charged. The reason— What was it? I bought 12 comics yesterday. 4 of them were comics for me to read. The other 8 were just different variant covers of things.
Brent (00:25:59 - 00:25:59): No.
Ryan (00:26:00 - 00:26:02): Second print, the 10th printings, or—
Brent (00:26:03 - 00:26:33): yeah, so you’re not buying— the difference between you and the speculators, yes, in this case is while occasionally you and I, and I’m guilty of it too, will give in and buy a book that like, oh, maybe someday this is going to be worth a couple bucks, the, the case that you’re talking about right now, these are books for your collection. Oh yeah, like, to be precise, most of what you’re talking about were the Invincible variants, and you love Invincible.
Ryan (00:26:33 - 00:26:33): Yes.
Brent (00:26:34 - 00:26:51): So this is part of your Invincible collection, and if they end up being worth a couple bucks at the end of the day, bonus. Same with the, the Transformers 10th print you got. This— you really like that cover, you like how it looks, that’s why you got it. Not necessarily—
Ryan (00:26:51 - 00:26:58): I really liked that cover. I just thought it’s really cool to have the 10th printing because they slapped the gold foil on it and Mm, okay, fair enough.
Brent (00:26:58 - 00:27:00): It’s the—
Ryan (00:27:00 - 00:27:04): yep, it’s the— ooh, this is pretty.
Brent (00:27:04 - 00:27:20): Yeah, whereas, you know, we— you and I have seen the, the, the re-rise, and it’s not like— it’s not uncommon for speculators to be in our store. Yeah, but we’re seeing comic shops, they’re coming out of the woodwork a little bit more lately.
Brent (00:27:20 - 00:27:20): Yeah.
Ryan (00:27:21 - 00:27:36): Um, I didn’t realize there was— oh, March 11th. Yeah, yesterday. I guess we didn’t get any in our store. You know that Archie book where we had the original one, I think, where Archie’s in the water with the scuba tank on and Betty and—
Brent (00:27:36 - 00:27:38): Oh, yeah. There was a facsimile of it?
Ryan (00:27:38 - 00:27:40): There was a facsimile of it out yesterday.
Brent (00:27:41 - 00:27:45): I remember seeing it solicited, but we didn’t get them in, I don’t think.
Ryan (00:27:46 - 00:29:12): No. I like the other one better, the one where he’s looking for a present. In the sporting goods. That’s a better, uh, that one’s a better gag on the COVID than, uh, um, I’m just, I’m scrolling through, uh, League of Comic Geeks just on, on yesterday’s releases, just since we were going to talk comics and say, oh yeah, let’s look at that. Um, I don’t know. I think the speculator market, like anything, it has its, it has its place. It’s not bad for the comic book industry because really, yeah, it’s, it’s getting word of mouth out there for books. It’s getting people in the shops. Now, the people that are coming in, if they’re just coming in to be speculators, well then really, yeah, they’re not, they’re not turning into long-term customers. They’re just, they’re riding the wave of whatever the latest craze is of, I can buy this and flip it for a couple bucks, or I can buy it, put it in a bag and board, put it in my box and ignore it, and it’ll be worth millions of dollars. It seems to be the speculators are falling in line with the independently published books and by independent, more like not Marvel or DC. So Image Books that announced that it’s a 10,000-issue print run or so, they already say what the first issue print run is.
Brent (00:29:12 - 00:29:20): Yeah. Which is, that is new. They didn’t used to. They just started doing that, and that’s part of what’s fueling the boom.
Ryan (00:29:21 - 00:30:16): Exactly. Which I think, you know, they probably did the research. They’re like, huh, so collectors, investment collectors, you know, scarcity collectors like to know there’s a set amount because, you know, you see that with when you get into, you know, print, fourth printings, third, fifth printings, whatever, of big books, like from the Big Two, you know, they set out, say out loud, or, you know, the print runs of those, or at least that they’re less than the originals. And then people want those. So I’ll say if you’re, if you’re paying attention to the collector market of comics, then you see these things and you say it makes sense for them to try, you know, to put out that number that, oh, yep, it’s only 10,000. And then that’s why they see it sell out. And then they’re like, oh, okay, we’re going to do a second printing, 10,000 or 5,000, or you manufactured scarcity.
Brent (00:30:17 - 00:31:14): Now, the one thing that I feel good about this current boom that’s happening, which who knows how long it’s going to last, but, um, is that because it’s focused on image comics, the creators of these books Hopefully they realize this, like, you know, this is probably going to be a little bit fleeting, but they’re like, because they own these properties and how Image Works is basically they help set up your printing and then, you know, you pay those fees. And I think there’s one other fee that you pay and then the rest is on you, both cost and like profit. So like the guy who did Dork is like getting a nice windfall right now because they’re— they’ve already announced a third or a fourth printing of the book.
Ryan (00:31:15 - 00:31:15): Nice.
Brent (00:31:15 - 00:31:43): Because like issue 1, uh, sold out first printing. Issue 2— or issue 1 second printing sold out. Um, so You know, third was announced. I think maybe it was the fourth printing is announced, which means the third printing sold out at probably a distributor level then. So like, good on those guys. Like, like, you know, ride that as a bank it. Don’t be stupid with it, and you can be making comics for a while longer.
Ryan (00:31:43 - 00:32:14): Well, exactly. And then if they’re smart too, this is the time when, you know, there’s a lot of buzz around the book or the title, then you might maybe cash in on cartoon rights or in some kind of a— let somebody buy the series rights for X many years or something. You put those kind of clauses in it where it’s like, “Okay, cool. Here’s the rights. Something’s got to be made in the next 4 years, 5 years.” And then I can shop it around again. Otherwise, it reverts back to me.
Brent (00:32:14 - 00:32:14): Yeah.
Ryan (00:32:15 - 00:32:33): But because I could see— I haven’t read Dork yet, I’ve flipped through it. I was like, “Yeah.” I could see that being, uh, you know, uh, uh, uh, an Adult Swim style cartoon or possibly, uh, Seth Rogen and his company gets involved with it like they did Invincible.
Brent (00:32:34 - 00:32:41): Like their, their animation is really good and would fit that. Like that, that crew could do that book really well.
Ryan (00:32:42 - 00:32:42): Yeah.
Brent (00:32:43 - 00:33:46): And you know, maybe it doing well will, uh, cast light on some other indie books that are out there too. Hopefully, and you know, especially like, I always hold out hope that Bone will get another go. Bone and Mouse Guard is the two that I’m like, oh, those books need like movies or TV shows. Bone, Jeff Smith doesn’t need the money. That Scholastic deal will take care of him and his heirs for some time. But like, it’s perfect for animation and it’s come so close twice. Mouse Guard the same. Mouse Guard got to the point with Disney where they’re like, if you go on YouTube, there’s animation tests for it. Like, basically they did an action sequence in, in CG for it that looks phenomenal. And then like, I think it’s the day before they were supposed to start like full pre-production mode is where Disney axed it. Oh yeah. So yeah. Uh, got anything you want to talk about?
What Ryan Is Watching and Reading
Ryan (00:33:47 - 00:33:50): Um, um, I don’t know.
Brent (00:33:50 - 00:33:52): Not to put you on the spot.
Ryan (00:33:53 - 00:33:58): Did, uh, did you want to talk about Hoppers or you want to wait for the rest of the crew to talk about Hoppers?
Brent (00:33:59 - 00:34:01): Uh, we’ll wait for the, what, the rest of them.
Ryan (00:34:01 - 00:34:03): Okay. Because it went and saw a movie.
Brent (00:34:03 - 00:34:14): Yes, I saw Hoppers with, and so did Jen, and so did Kevin, and then they all ditched me. Yeah. They have lives on Thursday, apparently.
Ryan (00:34:16 - 00:34:17): Ooh, must be nice.
Brent (00:34:17 - 00:34:17): Yeah.
Ryan (00:34:17 - 00:34:27): Um, what, what’s going on in Ryan’s life right now? Um, I just started watching the new season of, uh, One Piece.
Brent (00:34:28 - 00:34:30): Oh, the, the live action?
Ryan (00:34:30 - 00:34:40): The live action. The live action, uh, One Piece is on Netflix, so, uh, I had to make sure I watched the, uh, the, the Hey, previously on type thing to be like, oh yeah, that’s what happened last season.
Brent (00:34:41 - 00:34:42): How many episodes was the first season?
Ryan (00:34:43 - 00:35:17): Good question. I feel like it was only 10. It’s a standard Netflix series length. It’s not very long. But yeah, I’m an episode into the season and it feels— it feels like the first one. It feels like One Piece. There’s pirates and goofy— the new goofy pirates with powers and Marines with powers and Everybody’s fighting and swordplay and— yep. What else am I watching? Oh, I finished my rewatch of The Last Kingdom before it got taken off Netflix.
Brent (00:35:17 - 00:35:20): Oh, you and our listener and friend.
Ryan (00:35:21 - 00:35:22): And Jason.
Brent (00:35:22 - 00:35:22): Yeah.
Brent (00:35:23 - 00:35:23): Yes.
Ryan (00:35:24 - 00:35:37): Now I haven’t watched the standalone, the wrap-up movie again yet, but that’s still on there, so I’ll have to watch that. One of these days. I still need to watch that War Machine with Alan Ritchman, that Netflix movie. It looks good.
Brent (00:35:37 - 00:35:42): Somebody else told me about that today and I’m like, I didn’t even know it was a thing.
Ryan (00:35:42 - 00:35:43): Yeah.
Brent (00:35:43 - 00:35:44): I didn’t know it was set—
Ryan (00:35:44 - 00:35:45): I think it was Mark, one of the big ones.
Brent (00:35:46 - 00:36:00): Yeah. I think it was Mark, the manager of EB Games in the South End. I think he mentioned it to me that it looked pretty cool. So, all right, cool.
Ryan (00:36:00 - 00:36:06): Transformers was great. Latest issue of Transformers, like the stuff they’re doing in that series. I know we—
Brent (00:36:06 - 00:36:13): yeah, I guess we didn’t— you hadn’t read it last— had you? Is that the one you read last night, or did you read something?
Ryan (00:36:13 - 00:36:17): I read last night. Yeah, that’s what I read last night because you told me I needed to read that before you came over.
Brent (00:36:17 - 00:36:17): Yes.
Ryan (00:36:18 - 00:36:20): And I didn’t get time to read it before, so I read it when you came over.
Brent (00:36:22 - 00:36:32): Um, it, it’s, uh Interesting. Like, that’s the great thing about that book so far is they’re not adhering to strict canon rules.
Ryan (00:36:33 - 00:36:34): Well, exactly.
Brent (00:36:34 - 00:36:34): Which is good.
Ryan (00:36:34 - 00:36:35): They’re not retreading.
Brent (00:36:35 - 00:36:35): Yeah.
Ryan (00:36:35 - 00:36:37): They’re not retreading previously told stories.
Brent (00:36:38 - 00:36:44): Which, especially for somebody like you, because you followed most of the IDW stuff, right?
Ryan (00:36:44 - 00:36:51): Yes, I have read— I read, well, the first main continuity of IDW, I read all of it.
Brent (00:36:52 - 00:36:52): Yeah.
Ryan (00:36:53 - 00:37:00): Because I’ve got the— when it was just a bunch of miniserieses, I got that all in those hardcovers, those really nice hardcovers.
Brent (00:37:00 - 00:37:03): Yeah. Which are now worth a few bucks, some of them.
Ryan (00:37:03 - 00:37:04): Yeah, apparently.
Brent (00:37:05 - 00:37:05): Woo-hoo.
Ryan (00:37:06 - 00:37:39): And then when they switched to ongoings, by then I was just reading it as a monthly book. So I just got the floppies. So I read all that stuff. But then when they finished that continuity and started a new continuity, I looked at it and was like, yep, time for break. And then this Transformer book came out and I’m like, okay, I’m all in. Mask is coming. G.I. Joe’s great. They got a, the third anniversary connecting covers. Oh my God, my wallet, my poor, poor wallet.
Brent (00:37:40 - 00:37:42): Did you read the AEW comic yet?
Ryan (00:37:42 - 00:37:45): No, I haven’t read anything other than that Transformers comic.
Brent (00:37:45 - 00:37:45): Yeah, no worries.
Ryan (00:37:45 - 00:37:54): So That’ll be either tonight or actually, because I figured when we’re done this, we’re probably going to go play video games. Yeah, I won’t be reading tonight.
Brent (00:37:54 - 00:37:56): Daddy needs his Gundam armor.
Ryan (00:37:56 - 00:37:59): Yeah. Have you played yet?
Brent (00:37:59 - 00:38:02): No, no, I was busy throughout the day.
Ryan (00:38:04 - 00:38:28): But yeah, so since, you know, you and Jen have plans tomorrow night, so I figured tomorrow night I’ll be doing stuff around the house, which includes watching the World Baseball Classic where Canada is going to be playing USA. By the time you listen to this, you’ll be able to find out the outcome. So no spoilers. Don’t let— don’t tell me. And then, um, yeah, I’ll probably read some comic books while I watch baseball. Yeah, it’s a good night.
Firefly Returning?
Brent (00:38:28 - 00:38:35): Um, I guess the last thing we should mention before we close up is, uh, so update on our Firefly story from the last couple of weeks.
Ryan (00:38:36 - 00:38:39): Oh yes. Uh, I should have mentioned that. I forgot about that in the news.
Brent (00:38:39 - 00:39:14): So by the time you listen to this, you, you will possibly already know because it is being— we’re recording this on the Thursday before release. Of the episode, which means this Sunday is, uh, the— what the thing actually is. So, so far they have— all the living cast members have done these TikTok and Instagram vignettes with Nathan Fillion, including Adam Baldwin and including Alan Tudyk, um, who we pointed out might be an issue for any revival because his character is dead.
Brent (00:39:14 - 00:39:14): Dead.
Brent (00:39:14 - 00:39:17): Like dead dead. Like they killed him.
Ryan (00:39:18 - 00:39:21): Like big metal piece through your torso dead.
Brent (00:39:21 - 00:39:26): Yeah. He got one big Boromir instead of like a regular Boromir. Yeah.
Ryan (00:39:27 - 00:39:43): And because we did bring this up last episode and then it was funny because we brought this up on this, we recorded that Sunday night, released it Monday morning, Monday afternoon they’ve had a big announcement with the whole crew. About Funko Pops of all the crew members.
Brent (00:39:43 - 00:39:43): Yes.
Ryan (00:39:43 - 00:39:51): And we were all chatting like, is, was this, was this the thing? What a letdown if this is the thing.
Brent (00:39:51 - 00:39:58): Yes. But we, we are 99.9% positive it is not the Funkos that they’re talking about.
Ryan (00:39:59 - 00:40:08): No, because they’ve come out and they’ve done more of these, not, it’s time. And then they’ve posted in the, in the notes. It’s not a con. It’s not a podcast.
Brent (00:40:09 - 00:40:46): And in the latest one, it’s not bobbleheads, which to me seems to refer to the Funkos. So what is it? That is the question. Um, the, the leading thoughts in my head are it is something for charity. Like it is one of those. Omaze things. Remember how they were doing them for with the Star Wars movies where like you, like you entered into like a virtual lottery and you like all the money went to charity and you could possibly win a ticket to see the premiere of the latest Star Wars movie?
Ryan (00:40:47 - 00:40:47): Yeah, something.
Brent (00:40:47 - 00:41:00): Yeah, like it could be something along those lines where it’s like you get to meet the entire cast or something like that somewhere. Or it could be some sort of revival of Firefly.
Ryan (00:41:01 - 00:41:01): Could be.
Brent (00:41:02 - 00:41:16): So I, I feel that this is the closest it’s ever going to come. Yeah. If this isn’t a revival of it in some way, shape, or form, it’s not happening. Let’s never discuss that idea again.
Ryan (00:41:17 - 00:41:27): Exactly. Yeah. So apparently in one of the late— one of the newer videos There’s something— you see something about one of them is holding a green apple or something?
Brent (00:41:29 - 00:41:32): Yes, it’s the, uh, the one with Jane. Uh, okay.
Ryan (00:41:32 - 00:41:58): Yeah, so I guess some people are speculating that this, this is them, you know, their, their hint or that it’s going to be something animated because I guess voice actors like green apples to, to take care of their, their voices. I don’t know. That’s what I heard. I heard that on a podcast, and even they were like, I don’t know about what—
Brent (00:41:58 - 00:42:11): yeah, that feels like a stretch to me. Like, like, even like the, like, the idea of like it’s on Apple TV sounds more— that sounds like more of a hint for that. But it wouldn’t because, uh, Disney owns it, right?
Ryan (00:42:12 - 00:42:14): Uh, yeah, because they own the series. So I assume—
Brent (00:42:14 - 00:42:15): yeah, yeah.
Ryan (00:42:16 - 00:42:26): Take my land. Take me where I cannot stand. I don’t care, I’m still free. You can’t take the sky from me.
Ryan (00:42:26 - 00:42:41): As of this moment, the word is out. We are going to try to bring back Firefly. This time we’re going to animate it. Guys, bringing back Firefly, crazy or not crazy?
Brent (00:42:41 - 00:42:42): Not crazy.
Ryan (00:42:42 - 00:42:42): Crazy.
Brent (00:42:42 - 00:42:43): It’s crazy.
Ryan (00:42:43 - 00:42:43): Crazy.
Brent (00:42:44 - 00:42:46): Not crazy. Crazy. Crazy.
Ryan (00:42:46 - 00:42:48): It’s crazy, but it just might work.
Brent (00:42:48 - 00:42:56): Now, to do this, we would need Joss’s blessing. I got it. The rights from 20th Century Fox slash Disney.
Ryan (00:42:56 - 00:42:57): They got excited.
Brent (00:42:57 - 00:42:58): They said yes.
Ryan (00:42:59 - 00:43:09): The showrunner, I got two. Tara Butters, Agent Carter, Dollhouse, Marc Guggenheim, Arrow, Flash. They’re married. They met Through Firefly.
Brent (00:43:09 - 00:43:11): A script.
Ryan (00:43:12 - 00:43:13): We got it.
Brent (00:43:13 - 00:43:14): An animation house.
Ryan (00:43:15 - 00:43:22): Academy and Emmy Award-winning Shadow Machine. The last piece we need is a home.
Ryan (00:43:22 - 00:43:23): A home.
Brent (00:43:23 - 00:43:24): A home.
Ryan (00:43:24 - 00:43:25): A home.
Brent (00:43:25 - 00:43:27): A home. A home. A home.
Ryan (00:43:27 - 00:43:28): A home!
Brent (00:43:29 - 00:43:54): And for that, we need you. Like this post. Comment. Comment on this post. Repost this post. Tag your friends. Tag your family. Tag your enemies. I’m asking you to do what you’ve always done. Keep Firefly flying. Oh, and I’m about to go pitch this thing, so wish me luck.
Patreon Shoutouts
Brent (00:43:54 - 00:45:08): So there is our update from Malcolm Reynolds himself, Nathan Fillion. Uh, they’re working on an animated series. Um, nothing is definitive in this other than they have a plan. They have a crew. Everybody in principle is agreed with it. They just need somewhere to air it. So, uh, there you go. Uh, Firefly animated, maybe, hopefully we’ll see. Now back to, uh, past, uh, Ryan and I. Um, that brings us to the end of this, uh, short episode because it’s only the two of us and like every episode. Patreon shoutouts, patreon.com/TrueNorthNerds. If you would like to help us keep this show going, $3 a month, uh, helps us very much in upgrading some gear and some tech and paying for our theme song, which, uh, that reminds me, I have to do that very shortly, um, and a whole bunch of other things, uh, as part of that. If you— there is some exclusive content, uh, unfortunately, uh, listen to this is a little bit on hold as Alex has some things going on and needs to get that done. And his computer also went crappy.
Ryan (00:45:09 - 00:45:12): So yeah, I was going to say, it was— I was wondering if he got his computer fixed yet.
Brent (00:45:12 - 00:45:48): I, I haven’t heard an update on that. There’s been a couple other things that have happened too that have slowed the progress on it. So, um, I may put out a solo episode or try to recruit a guest host for an episode. We, we will try and get something out for the March period at any rate. Um, so yeah, and you also get a shout out. So shout outs go to Drew, Karina, Alex, Team Woods, who, uh, does, uh, our lovely landing page of truenorthnerds.com, uh, Mike Hammond from Maple Printing, uh, who 3D prints many cool things, and our good friend Rex.
Ryan (00:45:50 - 00:46:05): Um, I don’t know if you’ve seen So one of the recent big cool things that Mike’s been printing, he did a bunch of 3D models and then printed them of large-scale, almost at life-size scale Pokémon.
Brent (00:46:06 - 00:46:07): Oh, that’s cool.
Ryan (00:46:08 - 00:46:21): With the— made to look like they’re— when you put them up against a window, their face is squished and their hands are squished as if they’re up against the glass. Staring out through the window at the outside world or something like that.
Brent (00:46:21 - 00:46:22): Oh, neat.
Ryan (00:46:22 - 00:46:32): I’ll have to find one of them and send them to you so you can see them. But I’ve seen them start to pop up in my reels put out by other people.
Brent (00:46:32 - 00:46:32): Yeah.
Ryan (00:46:33 - 00:46:54): And I’m like, “That’s—” But I saw his first and knew that he did, as far as I know, he designed, he did the 3D modeling of them. So I was like, “Okay.” One of the times I saw something of his, I tagged— I saw he was tagged in it. I think I sent it to him, was like, uh, is this your design? Looks real familiar to me.
Brent (00:46:56 - 00:47:32): The, uh, uh, side note, there is somebody in Innisville that has one of those huge bed 3D printers. Oh yeah. And he’s, uh, like, as part of, I guess, his examples that he has on his, uh, sale page on Facebook Marketplace, he 3D printed a full-size battle droid from, uh, from like the prequels, and it looked really good. Nice. I’m like, there’s no way that could be cheap. No. Um, uh, got any geek picks before we go?
Geek Picks
Ryan (00:47:33 - 00:47:41): Um, yes, I’m gonna geek pick the, the current Spider-Man Venom crossover series that’s happening.
Brent (00:47:41 - 00:47:42): Ooh, that’s a good one.
Ryan (00:47:43 - 00:49:16): So in the latest issues of Spider-Man and Venom, they’ve got a little crossover story that’s going back and forth called Death Spiral. And we’ve only a couple issues in. I haven’t read the third issue, which— technically third issue, which is an issue of Venom that came out this week. But we found out at the end of the first Spider-Man issue, or during it, Peter’s back on Earth. He finds out, it’s revealed to him that Mary Jane is Venom. He thinks it’s Eddie. He keeps talking to him, calling them Eddie, and then they open up. He’s like, “Stop calling us Eddie.” It’s like, “What?” He has a little panic attack where he has to start breathing into a paper bag. And then he had gotten a message left on his phone from Eddie telling him that Carnage knows his secret identity. Which that cannot be good. And in the first issue, like the alpha or whatever, the introductory issue, we see this death spiral or what’s the bad guy’s name? Have they named him? Torment. Torment. Thank you. I always forget that. Going around and killing people that appear to have names similar to Eddie Brock or Peter Parker or Mary Jane Watson, different combinations. And stuff of the names. So, uh, yeah, it’s been an interesting story. I can’t— you know, I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Brent (00:49:16 - 00:49:19): And you haven’t read the Venom issue from this week, right?
Ryan (00:49:19 - 00:49:20): No, I have not read it.
Brent (00:49:20 - 00:49:26): Uh, yeah, talk about— read it before you, uh, come in on Saturday.
Ryan (00:49:26 - 00:49:29): Okay, like I said, that’s tomorrow night’s plan, read comics.
Brent (00:49:29 - 00:51:02): Nice. Um, yeah, okay, so, uh, my, uh, Geek Pick is going to be music and it’s related to the stuff that I’ve been talking about the last couple of episodes. I gave a full nice listen in my office to the vinyl version of Nine Inch Nails’ Downward Spiral, which it was the anniversary this week. I’m not saying the number because it makes me feel ancient. It came out like 35 years ago this week, something like that. Yeah. Yeah, um, but, uh, it’s a fantastic album from start to finish. It holds up really well. I, I was a little surprised because, um, the show that I went to see, uh, delves into that album a little bit more than previous tours that I’d seen them on. And I was like, I wonder if the whole album works as a piece still, because, um, I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a listen to this, just me explaining kind of my love of Nine Inch Nails and going through stuff. But, um, the thing is, is like, I’m, I’m not the guy that I was when I first got that album. So I was— wasn’t sure how well the whole thing would connect with me now. And it, it still does. It’s still really good. So, uh, you can stream it on Spotify or various things, or go out and buy a physical copy. Yes. And that is it. Uh, we shall return in 2 weeks from now. Uh, hopefully it’s more than just Ryan and I.
Closing
Ryan (00:51:03 - 00:51:09): Next time we’re here, we are talking and doing a full-blown review of Project Hail Mary, the movie.
Brent (00:51:09 - 00:51:13): Oh, right. We got to figure out what, uh, tickets for that and stuff. Yep.
Ryan (00:51:14 - 00:51:20): I think Jen said she was available on that Thursday night. So yes, that might be the best bet for the 3, at least the 3 of us.
Brent (00:51:21 - 00:51:29): Yeah. Uh, I will send out the group chat later on and, uh, we’ll figure out when and where. Um, yeah.
Ryan (00:51:29 - 00:51:41): So until then, uh, patreon.com/TrueNorthNerds, uh, or, uh, on Facebook at True North Nerds, at Tales from the Collectiverse.
Brent (00:51:42 - 00:51:55): And, uh, you know, feel free to share us with friends. Yes. If you, uh, if you like our podcast, send it out to friends of yours who are like-minded. And just get the word out about us. We’d like to increase our listenerhood now that we’re on Spotify.
Ryan (00:51:56 - 00:51:57): We were always on Spotify.
Brent (00:51:57 - 00:52:00): Yeah, but now we’re— well, no, we’re not exclusively on Spotify.
Ryan (00:52:01 - 00:52:16): We’re using their system to host our stuff. Yes. Um, yeah, write reviews. Don’t be afraid to put some comments against an episode if you feel like it, you know. Yes, give us some— get some interaction. That helps other people find us too. Yes, sir.
Brent (00:52:17 - 00:52:20): And until we see you again, as always, abomasday.
Ryan (00:52:22 - 00:52:22): Bye.
Brent (00:52:24 - 00:52:26): Goodbye. Goodbye.
