True North Nerds / Ep. 235 / May 11, 2026 / 01:12:44

Daring the Devil to Talk Wrestling

In Episode 235 of True North Nerds, Brent and Ryan hold down the fort while Jen is at a conference and Kevin is at Dollywood. The episode mixes collector-housekeeping, DCU and Star Wars news, wrestling roster talk, the Hulk Hogan documentary, and a spoiler-filled look at the Daredevil: Born Again finale before closing with Geek Picks for Maul: Shadow Lord and the Energon Universe 2026 Special.

— Hosted by Brent / Ryan

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 235 of the True North Nerds podcast, Daring the Devil to Talk Wrestling. With Jen recovering from a work conference and Kevin somewhere in the Smoky Mountains after a stop at Dollywood, Brent and Ryan take the microphones for a two-hander that blends collector talk, entertainment news, wrestling, Marvel, Star Wars, and a little Blue Jays energy.

Collector Housekeeping and Display Problems

The episode opens with Brent explaining how one new figure can start a whole-house reorganization. Kevin’s toy shopping assist leads to the arrival of the NECA Sesame Street Count figure, which sends Brent and Jen down the road of Muppet and Sesame Street display planning. Brent also talks about adding a Batman: The Animated Series Batcave to the collection, which creates a familiar collector problem: the toys are not the issue, the shelving is.

News, DCU Updates, and Star Wars Animation

Ryan walks through a lighter but still nerdy news block, including the new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, the season three release date for My Adventures with Superman, Matthew Lillard joining Man of Tomorrow, and the official release date for Lanterns. Brent adds an update on The Authority, noting that James Gunn has taken it off the active slate until a strong script comes together.

Wrestling Talk

With only Brent and Ryan on the show, the conversation naturally turns to wrestling. They discuss recent WWE releases, contract renegotiation reports, NXT’s developmental role, where released talent might land next, and the possibility of names like The New Day, Motor City Machine Guns, Aleister Black, and Jeff Cobb finding new opportunities elsewhere.

Daredevil: Born Again Finale

The main review section digs into the end of Daredevil: Born Again season two. Brent and Ryan talk through the implications of Luke Cage, Bullseye, Fisk, Matt Murdock, and White Tiger, plus how the series might connect to future street-level Marvel stories, including Spider-Man and possible team-ups.

Geek Picks of the Week

To close the episode, Ryan recommends the completed season of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, while Brent recommends the Energon Universe 2026 Special, especially for readers who want a jumping-on point for the shared Transformers, G.I. Joe, Void Rivals, and M.A.S.K. comic universe.

Welcome and Collector Housekeeping

Brent (00:01:22 - 00:01:37): Welcome, loyal listeners, to another episode of True North Nerds. This week, Jen is at a conference for work stuff. Well, actually, she’s home now, but she’s tired. And Kevin is somewhere in the Smoky Mountains.

Ryan (00:01:37 - 00:01:39): He’s on the road again.

Brent (00:01:39 - 00:01:41): And he’s already hit Dollywood.

Ryan (00:01:41 - 00:01:41): Yep.

Brent (00:01:42 - 00:01:44): So it’s just Ryan and I again.

Ryan (00:01:44 - 00:01:46): Yep, just us. He also went toy shopping for you and Jen.

Brent (00:01:47 - 00:01:52): Yes, he did. Well, he went toy shopping for all of us, but Jen and I were the ones who found stuff.

Ryan (00:01:52 - 00:02:00): Yes, which was the thing I was looking for. I was enjoying trying to ask him to find stuff to tempt you with. Yeah.

Brent (00:02:01 - 00:02:03): Ah, too much stuff. Oh yeah, stuff.

Ryan (00:02:03 - 00:02:03): Yes sir.

Brent (00:02:04 - 00:02:44): It’s a, it’s one, it’s amazing how buying one particular action figure can cause the chain reaction of we have to move everything in our house around because now, so, um, inside for, for you loyal listeners out there, One of the figures Kevin picked up for Jen and I was the NECA Sesame Street action figure of the Count, which is in the same, or at least very similar scale to the Palisades Muppet figures that Jen and I collect. And every once in a while, you’re going to probably hear a little bit of a pause or us say something or possibly even swear because we have the baseball game in the background.

Ryan (00:02:45 - 00:02:52): Yeah, we’re recording at Casa de Ryan and the Jays game’s on. And, uh, they’re playing well tonight.

Brent (00:02:52 - 00:02:52): Yeah.

Ryan (00:02:52 - 00:02:58): Oh, they’re going to review them. Okay. It was a close play from, you know, but, uh, yeah. So I go ahead, you, uh, the Count.

Brent (00:02:59 - 00:03:04): So Jen and I got to talking about, because the Muppets display is currently in my office.

Ryan (00:03:05 - 00:03:05): Yes.

Brent (00:03:05 - 00:03:09): About, okay, maybe we’ll move that upstairs and the Count can join them.

Ryan (00:03:10 - 00:03:10): Yep.

Brent (00:03:10 - 00:03:14): And then we’re talking about the other Sesame Street figures we may now have to get.

Ryan (00:03:14 - 00:03:14): Yep.

Brent (00:03:14 - 00:03:25): And yeah, so they need their whole like little section now. And then I, um, I also bought a Batman: The Animated Series, uh, Batcave.

Ryan (00:03:25 - 00:03:29): Yep. Oh yeah, especially when you lit that— when you sent me the picture of it with the lights on.

Brent (00:03:31 - 00:03:57): Yeah, it looks pretty awesome. But, um, the, the base of it takes up like a fair amount of real estate. Like, it’s not that the computer isn’t that much, but the base is like You can’t put a Batmobile on it, but you could put like the Batcycle on it. No problem. So where are you going to put it? Hence the whole moving everything in our house around because now I got to make a space for this too.

Ryan (00:03:58 - 00:03:58): Yeah.

Brent (00:03:59 - 00:04:01): I have an idea that you can get rid of that.

Ryan (00:04:02 - 00:04:04): Do you still have that TV collecting dust in your living room?

Brent (00:04:04 - 00:04:05): No, that’s downstairs.

Ryan (00:04:06 - 00:04:08): The big, no, the big dirt, the big old one.

Brent (00:04:08 - 00:04:09): Yeah. That’s downstairs.

Ryan (00:04:09 - 00:04:12): Oh, is it downstairs now? They never made its way down to the garage.

Brent (00:04:12 - 00:04:26): No, it should make its way out to like, you know, recycling, the recycling, but it’s heavy, requires two people and to go to the dump, which also costs money. Well, no, it’s, but this is prompting me to get—

Ryan (00:04:26 - 00:04:28): It’s e-waste, so you can, you can dump it. Oh yeah.

Brent (00:04:28 - 00:04:34): That’s true. Yeah. Uh, unless somebody out there wants a tube TV, you retro gamers out there.

Ryan (00:04:35 - 00:04:43): You could put it, you know what? Talk to Ed one of these times when he’s in town. He could throw it in the back of his truck, put it on the, on the side of the road in front of his house, and it’ll disappear.

Brent (00:04:43 - 00:04:44): It’ll just disappear.

Ryan (00:04:44 - 00:04:45): I did that with my old TV.

Brent (00:04:46 - 00:04:46): Yeah.

Ryan (00:04:46 - 00:04:48): I brought it to his house and before I left it was gone.

Brent (00:04:50 - 00:04:58): So there’s that. And she’s got this Barbie Dreamhouse that she picked up from Value Village like quite some time ago.

Ryan (00:04:58 - 00:04:58): Okay.

Brent (00:04:58 - 00:05:32): And that needs a place to go. So I’ve actually like, now this has all got the wheels turning in my head of like what’s going to go. And we’ve also talked about like, downsizing. This sounds so bad. Downsizing some of our books that will also give us some more shelf space. Yeah, because there’s like, there’s a ton of graphic novels that I, I like. If we do another promotion like what we did at work a little while ago, yeah, we do another one of those, I, I might like be letting go a lot more than I did the first time because I want to funnel it down to like stuff that I really want to keep.

Ryan (00:05:32 - 00:05:43): Yeah, so Well, if you ever— when you decide you need a hand or you want design ideas and layout ideas for your rooms, let me know. You know, I’m more than happy to help.

Brent (00:05:43 - 00:06:00): I’ve actually— like, there’s a space where I think it’s going to be like Jen’s childhood, basically, downstairs, because it’s going to be her— like, if she agrees to it and likes the idea— her Barbie dream home, right? Like, is going to be neighbors with the Strawberry Shortcake house that she also has.

Ryan (00:06:00 - 00:06:00): Yep.

Brent (00:06:00 - 00:06:10): And gazebo and all the other bric-a-brac that comes with it. So there’ll be there, but there might also be enough room where I want to put it to put the Batcave right behind it.

Ryan (00:06:10 - 00:06:38): Nice. You know, your basement’s big enough that, and the way it’s laid out, if you— what you could do, because you’ve got, you know, with your little seating area in front of that TV, there’s all that space behind it where you have the, the bookcase in the corner and stuff that you could get a couple of those like If you, you know, if you say you got like the, the 8, I guess what is like the 4x4 IKEA shelf, and do it where you take out a cup, you don’t make them all squares, you make a couple rectangles.

Brent (00:06:38 - 00:06:48): Yeah, we did. So the first place she and I had together in Brantford, we actually did that in our basement because the basement was also our bedroom. Yeah, so we used that to like sort of split things off.

Ryan (00:06:48 - 00:07:00): Well, so that’s something, they put one of those behind the couches and separate like the TV basement area from a sit-down collectibles area where you have—

Brent (00:07:00 - 00:07:03): Yeah, no, I have a similar idea. Okay.

Ryan (00:07:04 - 00:07:07): So welcome to Ryan and Brent Reno Rent Brent’s Basement.

Brent (00:07:07 - 00:07:17): Yes. This actually feels more like a collector-verse. Although, what’s your slogan or the saying that it’s—

Ryan (00:07:17 - 00:07:22): I don’t have a collecting problem. I’ve got a space problem or a shelving problem. Um, yes.

Brent (00:07:22 - 00:07:25): Or it’s not a shelf podcast, it’s a toy podcast.

Ryan (00:07:25 - 00:07:27): Exactly. Yeah.

Brent (00:07:27 - 00:07:31): So anyways, Ryan— oh, and I’m Brent, by the way. I don’t think I actually introduced myself.

Ryan (00:07:32 - 00:07:33): I think by now people are listening know.

Brent (00:07:33 - 00:07:34): Yeah.

Ryan (00:07:34 - 00:07:35): Um, if you do, hi.

Brent (00:07:36 - 00:07:37): What’s, uh, what’s in the news?

News: Movies, DC, and Star Wars

Ryan (00:07:37 - 00:07:52): What’s in the news? Uh, not much. The big— one of the big things this week, and, uh, I can’t wait for this movie to come out so we can actually get Jen, you know, to sit down and tell us all of her thoughts. Uh, but we got a new full trailer for The Odyssey.

Brent (00:07:53 - 00:07:53): Yes.

Ryan (00:07:54 - 00:08:06): Uh, we see, um, Tom Holland. So we see Spider-Man, we see Batman, we see the Punisher, we see everybody in this one.

Brent (00:08:06 - 00:08:11): Matt Damon hasn’t done a superhero movie, has he? I’m thinking—

Ryan (00:08:12 - 00:08:16): well, he was, he was the angel. He was an angel in, uh, in Dogma.

Brent (00:08:16 - 00:08:19): That’s not really a superhero movie.

Ryan (00:08:19 - 00:08:23): No, but I’m just trying to think of something that’s close enough. No, I guess he hasn’t really done a—

Brent (00:08:23 - 00:08:24): oh, that Great Wall movie he did.

Ryan (00:08:25 - 00:08:35): Yeah, he’s not a superhero and also not a superhero and not like a mythical character. But, uh, is Matt Damon in that movie?

Brent (00:08:36 - 00:08:36): In the Great Wall movie?

Ryan (00:08:37 - 00:08:38): No, in The Odyssey.

Brent (00:08:38 - 00:08:39): Yeah, he’s the main guy.

Ryan (00:08:40 - 00:08:41): Oh, is he?

Brent (00:08:41 - 00:08:42): Yeah, he’s Ulysses.

Ryan (00:08:42 - 00:08:53): Is he? Okay, I wasn’t paying that much attention. Um, pardon me. Uh, but yep, so we got that trailer. Looks interesting.

Brent (00:08:53 - 00:09:26): Yeah, I, I see more monsters and stuff, and which, which is like interesting because since Batman— and you can even argue Batman doesn’t count— Nolan hasn’t really done anything with like genre. Yeah. Like he’s done science fiction, but like Interstellar is like hard science fiction. Like, but then there’s Tenet, kind of reality. There was Tenet, which is also just time travel-y, wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey rewind. Also didn’t really work very well, or at least not for me.

Ryan (00:09:26 - 00:09:27): I like it.

Brent (00:09:27 - 00:09:34): I thought it was okay, but some, some of the stuff is like, um, why is this happening plot? Oh yeah, you know, oh no, for sure.

Ryan (00:09:34 - 00:09:45): Like, it’s— I’m more likely to sit down and rewatch Interstellar, but I own Tenet. Yeah, only because you gave it to me because you had two copies.

Brent (00:09:45 - 00:09:51): I got two copies in that pile, that bulk deal that I got. That reminds me, I have a copy of Terminator 2 for you too.

Ryan (00:09:52 - 00:09:52): Oh nice, yes.

Brent (00:09:54 - 00:10:01): Okay, so he’s watching the hockey game. Yeah, we’re watching the baseball game and there’s a guy in the stands who’s watching the hockey game.

Ryan (00:10:01 - 00:10:03): Yeah, well, there’s Montreal Buffalo playoff.

Brent (00:10:03 - 00:10:07): Okay, fair enough. And that’s an out.

Ryan (00:10:07 - 00:10:43): That’s why I checked, uh, Montreal at this time. That is over. Montreal was winning. Oh, now they’re winning 3-0. Oh good, they lost game 1. So Buffalo leads the series 1-0. But, uh, but you know, the Toronto Maple Leafs, they won the lottery, so yep. Well, we’ll talk sports later in the sports block, kind of. Yeah. Um, next, next. Oh, uh, one of my and Kevin’s newer favorite cartoons, uh, has a season 2 release date. My Adventures with Superman.

Brent (00:10:44 - 00:10:44): Yep.

Ryan (00:10:44 - 00:11:01): Or sorry, season 3, season 3 release date. This is the third season. Second season was Supergirl. This one, this one looks like it might be Cyborg Superman. Yeah, because that’s some sort of promotional image, but it’s got like an L like a— as if he’s like a Luthor cyborg. So I don’t know what the story—

Brent (00:11:01 - 00:11:03): well, they could do— they could be doing something different with it, right?

Ryan (00:11:04 - 00:11:11): Well, yeah. So that looks cool. Uh, it will be— yeah, season 3 starts Saturday, June 13th at midnight.

Brent (00:11:12 - 00:11:12): It’s—

Ryan (00:11:13 - 00:11:17): I know it’s on, uh, whatever the— in the States, the Cartoon Network is called.

Brent (00:11:17 - 00:11:21): Um, it’s not called the Cartoon Network anymore.

Ryan (00:11:22 - 00:11:29): No, no, no, no, it’s, uh I don’t know, but, uh, and at that block, at that late night block—

Brent (00:11:29 - 00:11:30): oh, Adult Swim.

Ryan (00:11:30 - 00:11:38): Yeah, there you go. That’s, um, I have no idea why this cartoon is on, especially why is it a midnight on Adult Swim release.

Brent (00:11:38 - 00:11:41): Yeah, that seems weird because what I’ve seen of it, it’s like—

Ryan (00:11:42 - 00:11:43): yeah, it’s—

Brent (00:11:43 - 00:11:47): I don’t know, I don’t know, all ages, but definitely like— no, I would say older kids can watch it.

Ryan (00:11:48 - 00:12:27): Yeah, for sure. I, I could see this I don’t see there being an issue with it being all ages. Like, it’s Superman. It’s a very wholesome Superman. It’s comic book violence. It’s not, you know, it’s not super kiddie. And there’s— it’s the storylines and the acting and everything’s done well enough that adults can enjoy it too. But yep, so that starts. So I’ll be, uh, PVRing that when it starts because I’ll put you in bed when it’s on because I’m an old man. Matthew Lillard, who’s been doing great in the new season of Daredevil, who’s also a longtime collaborator with one James Gunn.

Brent (00:12:29 - 00:12:33): He is Scooby-Doo. Scooby-Doo, yeah, where are you?

Ryan (00:12:35 - 00:12:41): Well, he has been cast in Man of Tomorrow. Yeah, they haven’t said who.

Brent (00:12:41 - 00:12:48): Who? But which it could just be random, just be a random, like, random character scientist character.

Ryan (00:12:48 - 00:13:00): But you know, I saw one in, uh, one of those clickbaity stories like, oh, top 5 characters Matthew Lillard could be. Okay, you know, they’re throwing out stuff like Toyman or, uh, Swamp Thing.

Brent (00:13:01 - 00:13:07): Swamp Thing? Ah, no, I don’t see Swamp Thing in his future.

Ryan (00:13:08 - 00:13:09): Oh, or Plastic Man.

Brent (00:13:11 - 00:13:23): Oh, Plastic Man wouldn’t be bad. Um, who would get— like, let’s stoke the internet flames a little bit. Who would you cast him as, as a DC character?

Ryan (00:13:23 - 00:13:36): DC character for Man of Tomorrow? Good question. Um, oh, I think one of them in the article also said Ambush Bug. But that’s such a, that’s such a deep cut character.

Brent (00:13:37 - 00:13:41): Yeah, but with James Gunn, that’s a possibility. Like, I wouldn’t take that off the table.

Ryan (00:13:41 - 00:14:14): No. Um, who could he be? Who could he be? It’d be interesting to know. Well, if we knew what the story was, then how to fit it in, because it wouldn’t really matter anyway, because didn’t expect— you know, we got Guy Gardner in the first Superman movie. Um, Starman with the go— like ’90s Starman. Yeah, maybe with the staff and the goggles, love jacket. I could see that being a James Gunn type character.

Brent (00:14:15 - 00:14:31): Now I, I would say normally I would say he’s too old for the part, but given how James has been like liberal liberal casting stuff, like with, like, you know, uh, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, for instance.

Ryan (00:14:31 - 00:14:31): Yep.

Brent (00:14:32 - 00:14:34): Matthew Lillard as Booster.

Ryan (00:14:35 - 00:14:40): Yeah, but aren’t we still getting a Booster series of some sort in the works?

Brent (00:14:40 - 00:14:42): Put him in the Superman movie to start it off.

Ryan (00:14:42 - 00:14:43): True. Yeah.

Brent (00:14:44 - 00:15:14): Um, that, like, like, if you were going that age route, he’d be, he’d be good. I, I’m not convinced they are. No, actually, be honest, Booster or Ted Kord Yeah, but I don’t know if they had like— because we got Ted Kord’s voice at the end of Blue Beetle, and we know Blue Beetle is still part of the DCU, but not necessarily how we saw it, maybe kind of sort of. Yeah, so that like— but it’s like it was a voice they could put somebody else in. Yeah, in there anyway.

Ryan (00:15:15 - 00:15:19): Oh yeah, well, that was the— that was the just the universe just adjacent. Yeah, that’s why his voice is.

Brent (00:15:19 - 00:15:25): But again, if they’re— if they’re planning on going a little bit younger for Booster, they would have to go younger Ted too.

Ryan (00:15:25 - 00:15:34): So, well, that’s why, you know, if it went someone like Starman as an older, then you can set up for having Stargirl, right? To have him have—

Brent (00:15:34 - 00:15:39): yeah, except that, who is Stargirl the daughter of? Because it’s not Starman’s daughter.

Ryan (00:15:39 - 00:15:46): No, she’s just— yeah, her, her mom, Stripes. Stripey.

Brent (00:15:47 - 00:16:02): Yeah, Stripey ends up like her stepdad, which I could, I can see that being like put in there as well because that’s like, like you add Stripey into like, you know, Stripey, Creature Commandos.

Ryan (00:16:02 - 00:16:02): Yeah.

Brent (00:16:02 - 00:16:06): Like it, like as backstory special or somewhere with G.I. Robot.

Ryan (00:16:06 - 00:16:06): Yep.

Brent (00:16:06 - 00:16:12): You know, there’s lots of ways to work him in and then kind of like what they did with Rick Flag actually, Rick Flag Senior.

Ryan (00:16:12 - 00:16:13): Yep. Right.

Brent (00:16:13 - 00:16:33): But, um, I’m just kind of happy Matthew Lillard after like Quentin Tarantino kind of verbally kicking him. Yeah, on that interview is now like everybody else went, no, we like Matthew Lillard, fuck you Quentin. And now he’s getting out like Daredevil.

Ryan (00:16:34 - 00:16:34): Yep.

Brent (00:16:34 - 00:16:42): Which I like, he isn’t in it a lot, but I really liked his character in it, and hopefully we’ll see a little bit more of him in the future.

Ryan (00:16:43 - 00:16:55): But actually, I have thoughts about him and what happened at the end of Daredevil, which we can get into after because we can— yeah, we can talk Daredevil. Um, and then what else do I got? I got— I think one more.

Brent (00:16:55 - 00:16:59): I actually— I, I’ve got a bit of news that I don’t know if you’ve got on there.

Ryan (00:16:59 - 00:17:00): Okay, let me— this is another just DC.

Brent (00:17:01 - 00:17:02): Okay, so they’ll fit.

Ryan (00:17:02 - 00:17:07): Yeah, we got, uh, an official release date for Lanterns the series.

Brent (00:17:07 - 00:17:08): Okay.

Ryan (00:17:08 - 00:17:11): Uh, the first episode comes out on August 16th.

Brent (00:17:11 - 00:17:11): Nice.

Ryan (00:17:11 - 00:17:17): So before it was just kind of end of summer. Yeah, late summer. Now we know it’s August 16th.

Brent (00:17:17 - 00:17:20): Hopefully it shows up on Crave, uh, hopefully that way.

Ryan (00:17:20 - 00:17:21): HBO Max.

Brent (00:17:21 - 00:17:23): So yeah, so it’s a good possibility.

Ryan (00:17:23 - 00:17:24): It should.

Brent (00:17:25 - 00:18:02): Um, James Gunn, speaking of all that stuff, uh, announced that, uh, the Authority movie that had been like mentioned in the past is currently like not being worked on. Ah. It has been taken off the slate and basically said no script has been coming together. And his whole thing has been, I’m not doing the movie. We’re not doing the movie unless the script is good. So they don’t have a good script. They’ve taken it off. The only sort of bad part about that, and like they can always come back to it, I suppose, is they already laid a little bit of the groundwork with having the Engineer in the last Superman movie. But that doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Ryan (00:18:02 - 00:18:09): Is the Authority not just like a little more darker Justice League?

Brent (00:18:10 - 00:18:19): Kinda. Um, some of the characters definitely are, as I’ve mentioned in the past, like Apollo and the Midnighter are basically gay Batman and Superman.

Ryan (00:18:19 - 00:18:19): Yeah.

Brent (00:18:19 - 00:18:47): And that’s not me, like, making a big pun. They are actually gay and the Midnighter is essentially Batman and Apollo is essentially Superman and they are in a relationship. In fact, they adopt a child at one point. Um, they do kind of have a hawk person. Um, they have, they have a mystical person in the Doctor, as he’s called. So, so I see what your point is.

Ryan (00:18:47 - 00:19:03): I’m just thinking like it’s kind of tough for like to introduce this new team in DC and be part of these DC movies, like this team that most people don’t know who they are. Like, I’ve heard of them. I don’t know who they are, and I work at a comic book store on Saturday.

Brent (00:19:03 - 00:19:06): You should read them, or at least the first two storylines.

Ryan (00:19:06 - 00:19:13): Yeah. Um, but I think it would be hard to present that and not have people be thinking, this isn’t the Justice League.

Brent (00:19:13 - 00:19:13): Yeah.

Ryan (00:19:13 - 00:19:18): Or is this the Justice League? I thought the DC— I thought Superman’s in the Justice League. What’s— this isn’t the Justice League.

Brent (00:19:18 - 00:20:03): So yeah, they fall in this weird category because they, they are— they were originally a Wildstorm property that got bought when DC bought Wildstorm. So like, if you made them— to me, it’s almost like I, I see what the problem with getting that script together is, is you kind of have to make them out like not attached to the DCU. Or there was a version in New 52 where Martian Manhunter was part of the team, and— but at the same time while that book was like a decent read, it wasn’t really The Authority, you know what I mean? It was just kind of had The Authority name on it. It might as well have been like Justice League Black Ops or something like that instead.

Ryan (00:20:04 - 00:20:18): Um, and see, that’s, that’s my thought is like that would be the problem you’d run into is you wouldn’t get— they wouldn’t go as far as The Authority books go. You’d get Authority light, which may as well just be a Justice League sub-team.

Brent (00:20:19 - 00:20:55): I— my thought to it, and I don’t know how many of these are actually planning on doing, is like, I always thought that especially the first couple Authority things would have made really good DVD movies, like what they were doing for Batman. Or now, like, you do that unconnected to the DCU as a series, like what Invincible is, where you can get away with like the graphic violence and stuff like that. Like the— so they’re like not Justice League at one point takes on a not Avengers, like an evil not Avengers.

Ryan (00:20:55 - 00:20:55): Okay.

Brent (00:20:56 - 00:22:19): And Apollo flies through Giant Man’s head. Oh. Like right through it. Wow. It’s actually the— one of my favorite sequences in any comic book from that era is, um, The Authority get in this battle like after basically partying the night before, and somebody’s like, “What kind of superheroes go into battle smelling like booze?” And like Apollo flies through the giant man’s head and he’s like, “Dangerous ones.” Oh, nice. Yeah, so yeah, so that’s, that, that’s off the slate, which means we no longer have to try and figure out where that one fits into anything. There’s a couple things like that that have been shifted around, and I, I like the fact that, like, Gunn’s been pretty, like, forthright in both that and when things are, like, no longer in the works. Yeah, like, I think we got an update on Swamp Thing a while back where it’s like, it’s now, like, it’s going to happen, but it’s on the back burner because of, uh, is it James Mangold, I think, is attached to it? He’s got like 2 other projects lined up in front of it. So they’re, and they really want him to do it, I guess. So they put it on the back burner until he’s available. So it means like they’re willing to, like they’re not going to rush this stuff out necessarily.

Ryan (00:22:20 - 00:22:20): Yeah.

Brent (00:22:20 - 00:22:32): I’m sure we’re going to get one. There’ll be one that they think is ready and goes out and like, it’s going to be half baked, but it’s inevitable. Yeah. The one, especially when you’re pumping out kind of those movies.

Ryan (00:22:32 - 00:22:50): Yeah. But at least they— as much as he’s got a road, like a map of what he’s doing, it’s not right now at least isn’t, oh, they’re clearly building to this. Yeah, they’re not rushing anything. They’re not like, and now we’re gonna do the Justice League, or now we’re gonna do Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Brent (00:22:51 - 00:23:09): Or like, I think he’s, he’s even said like the Justice League isn’t like really on their radar at all because they’ve Yeah, well, they can’t do a Justice League Justice League movie or anything really until they’ve introduced a Batman and a Wonder Woman and a Wonder Woman.

Ryan (00:23:09 - 00:23:28): Yeah, we know there’s a Batman in this universe because we see his silhouette in Creature Commandos. Yep, in his reference. But we don’t know, we don’t see him, we don’t know him. So it’s one of those— I’m sure there’s probably a Wonder Woman too. We just haven’t seen her or been referenced.

Brent (00:23:28 - 00:23:41): Hasn’t he mentioned that? Like, they know who the— who Wonder Woman is, like, playing her and stuff. They just haven’t— I don’t know, they don’t know when they’re— like, they’re keeping it quiet when she’s actually going to start appearing.

Ryan (00:23:42 - 00:23:42): I wouldn’t be surprised.

Brent (00:23:43 - 00:23:43): Yeah.

Ryan (00:23:44 - 00:23:46): Um, but that’s it for my news.

Brent (00:23:47 - 00:23:48): That was it for me as well.

Ryan (00:23:48 - 00:23:51): Um, so we’ll get into our nerdy sports block here for a second.

Wrestling Talk

Brent (00:23:52 - 00:23:57): Wrestling talk because Ryan and I don’t get to do that on the podcast when the other two are here.

Ryan (00:23:57 - 00:24:19): Yep. And there’s been so much going on, especially on the WWE side of things lately, that we might as well chat about it. Okay. You know, it’s just us. So the, the WWE, uh, released or, um, well, first they released a bunch of people, released a whole bunch of people, some that had just been resigned less than a year ago.

Brent (00:24:19 - 00:24:25): Yep. And then apparently went to renegotiate with other people and couldn’t work out deals.

Ryan (00:24:26 - 00:24:34): Yeah, because when you walk up to someone and say, okay, cool, cool, cool. Yeah, we like you. We want you to stay here, but we don’t want to pay you what we promised we’d pay you.

Brent (00:24:34 - 00:24:34): Yeah.

Ryan (00:24:34 - 00:24:37): Signed you. How about taking a 50% pay cut?

Brent (00:24:39 - 00:24:47): Which, to be fair, that’s one report. We don’t know if that’s straight ahead across the board, but they are asking people, some people to take pay cuts.

Ryan (00:24:47 - 00:25:10): My one thought hearing all this stuff with, you know, the cuts and the pay cuts and the renegotiating and all this, and it’s like they’re realizing, oh wait, you know, we have all these people and we only have so many hours of TV and we have all these people that aren’t being on TV, but we signed them. And it’s like, you signed all these people and paid a lot, some of them big bucks to sign with you.

Brent (00:25:10 - 00:25:10): Yeah.

Ryan (00:25:11 - 00:25:13): Because you didn’t want them to sign somewhere else.

Brent (00:25:13 - 00:25:13): Yep.

Ryan (00:25:14 - 00:25:16): And then you didn’t do anything with them.

Brent (00:25:17 - 00:25:17): Yeah.

Ryan (00:25:17 - 00:25:28): And now you— now it’s been like, well, yeah, we’re just gonna let you go because we can, because you’re an independent contractor. We’re just gonna let you go and you can’t— you can’t wrestle anywhere else.

Brent (00:25:28 - 00:25:35): Yeah. Depending on what show you were on for either 30 or 90 days, assuming that hasn’t changed.

Ryan (00:25:35 - 00:25:37): No, it sounds weird. Still the—

Brent (00:25:37 - 00:26:24): it sounds like that’s still the standard, but with Andrade We heard his— about his contract things that had to basically go through a lawyer to— lawyer go, no, this is stupid. And then they worked something out. But yeah, NXT cuts, I can kind of see. Like, it sucks. Like, like, well, anybody losing their job is not great, especially in this economy. Um, but the NXT people, like, a lot of it is like They— it sounds like they’re not living up to expectations or they’re not at the level that they should be at at this point, and they’re cutting them in order to make room for more people because NXT is their, their AAA ball team developmental. Yeah. And that’s what it should be used for.

Ryan (00:26:25 - 00:26:30): Didn’t the one woman that got cut just win their like reality show?

Brent (00:26:30 - 00:26:39): Yeah. To become a wrestler, which seems like What’s the point? What’s the point? If that’s the case, you should— they should have kept her for at least another year or something.

Ryan (00:26:40 - 00:26:56): And it’s funny, like, they’ve been more and more like— it’s interesting, some of the people, like, you know, when we saw them sign like an Ethan Page and a Ricky Saints and stuff, then bring— that were indie guys that were AEW guys that they brought in and then put them on NXT, and then now they’ve moved them up to the main roster.

Brent (00:26:56 - 00:26:56): Yep.

Ryan (00:26:56 - 00:27:15): But they’ve been going at less— trying to sign less the young people on the indie scenes and trying to get just like, oh, you were a former college football guy or a former cheerleader, or trying to get— do the, well, let’s bring an athlete in and we’ll teach them how to wrestle our way.

Brent (00:27:16 - 00:27:16): Yeah.

Ryan (00:27:17 - 00:27:21): And then now they’re just— 9 out of 10 of those don’t pan out.

Brent (00:27:22 - 00:27:28): Yeah, which is like, that’s fair, like, because I would say that that’s the same for indie wrestlers then to a certain extent.

Ryan (00:27:28 - 00:27:32): Yeah, at the very least, like The indie wrestlers, if you’re an indie wrestler, then you got a passion for wrestling.

Brent (00:27:32 - 00:27:33): Yeah.

Ryan (00:27:33 - 00:27:46): Where a lot of these college athletes, some of them, they may have been a fan of the Attitude Era or something like that, or know who Stone Cold and The Rock are, but they wouldn’t be able to tell you what a move is.

Brent (00:27:47 - 00:28:04): And yeah, and it’s like, yeah, it’s like the, the, like Gable Stevenson is like a prime example of a failed project. He was like a Collegiate, like, wrestler who I can’t remember if he— I want to say he wrestled at the Olympics.

Ryan (00:28:04 - 00:28:04): Okay.

Brent (00:28:04 - 00:28:13): Yeah, he wrestled and got gold, I think. I think because they were thinking the next Kurt Angle, and he had one televised match.

Ryan (00:28:14 - 00:28:14): Yeah.

Brent (00:28:14 - 00:29:06): And like, but they like tried promoting the crap out of him, and just from reports, it sounded like for whatever reason, just wasn’t getting it. Yeah, so that I can kind of see, but it’s the, the main roster stuff, like, like, you know, the first round is like, okay, I can kind of see, like, it really boiled down to like, it almost felt like it’s like, well, booking had nothing for you, so they were just going to let you go. Not that, like, you know, Motor City Machine Guns were like an example of that. Like, I don’t think it was anything they did. They, they had the matches they did have were pretty good. Up until they were relegated to telling people how to sign up for ESPN+ or whatever it was. But the Malachi Black one, I don’t get. Now, he was one of—

Ryan (00:29:06 - 00:29:15): he was like— he was a hunter, air quotes. He’s one of Hunter’s guys. Yeah, he’s one of those guys. As soon as, you know, Hunter took over, everybody was like, oh, he’s going to leave AEW.

Brent (00:29:15 - 00:29:16): Which he kind of did.

Ryan (00:29:17 - 00:29:17): He did.

Brent (00:29:18 - 00:29:21): And then they signed— and he wasn’t even back a year before they let him go.

Ryan (00:29:22 - 00:29:44): Now it’s funny, depending— there’s all kinds of back and forth reports like, oh, he’s secretly in talks with AEW. Oh yeah, no, he’s not. And I think one of the reports, I think they were talking, saying, you know, the best thing for him right now would be, like, after his 90 days is up, would be to go to TNA. Go to TNA, he’d be a big fish in that, in that pond.

Brent (00:29:44 - 00:29:44): Yes.

Ryan (00:29:45 - 00:29:55): And, uh, yeah. Because if you bring him back to AEW, what do you do? Do you put him back? Does he go back, you know, try to reform the House of Black? Well, the guy— those guys have moved on.

Brent (00:29:56 - 00:30:33): Yeah, well, one’s injured, one’s in, but like, but Brody King’s moved on. No, and it would be a step backward for Brody to be reassociated with him. Yeah, unless it was in a feud. Yeah, that I could see. Not only that, I think he’d just be lost in the shuffle right now. Like, AEW is another roster that’s super stacked. Like, you and I have joked, like, if I had a billion dollars and no common sense, I would open up a wrestling company right now because, like, there’s enough talent floating around that you could, you could have a good main roster out of the gate and then start working on some new guys to bring up.

Ryan (00:30:34 - 00:30:57): Yeah, it’s, uh, you know, I’m just, I’m kind of surprised, and maybe that’s, you know, like we said maybe AEW’s kind of going that way right now, where you see some guys go away for a bit and they come back and all this. It’s like how they could easily get themselves into a little like seasonal rotation where like, okay, you’re on and you’re on, you’re here, you’re on, you go for 4 months.

Brent (00:30:57 - 00:30:57): Yeah.

Ryan (00:30:58 - 00:31:20): And then you take a couple months off or 3 months, you know, 3 or 4 months off, then you’re back in again. And it’s like, it’s a new season, and you overlap people so that there’s— it’s not just, oh, the same people are on for 4 months. Yeah. So you have overlap and stuff, you mix it up, and then, then maybe you don’t get as many injuries. People, yeah, you know, stay fresh.

Brent (00:31:20 - 00:31:23): Yeah, it’s just like, hey, like, you have to be in the gym, like, keep working out.

Ryan (00:31:23 - 00:31:25): Oh yeah, you still gotta keep yourself healthy, you know.

Brent (00:31:25 - 00:31:47): Yes. Because if somebody also gets— if somebody gets injured, then you, like, you have reserves too, right? I think that, like, I know Court Bauer, who runs MLW, that was always a dream of his to do with WWE stuff when he worked at WWE. Yeah, but I’ve noticed he hasn’t really ever implemented it at MLW.

Ryan (00:31:47 - 00:31:49): Well, you probably can’t at MLW.

Brent (00:31:49 - 00:31:51): Yeah, it’s also a much smaller operation.

Ryan (00:31:52 - 00:32:04): Yeah, but like 10 strikeouts for Cease tonight. He’s working, he’s on fire tonight. Yeah, you know, like He’s got a glorious mustache and that— look at that hair flowing in the wind behind him with every pitch.

Brent (00:32:05 - 00:32:12): I don’t know why, but I think it’s because of a, uh, a baseball— a Panini baseball sticker album I had as a kid.

Ryan (00:32:12 - 00:32:12): Okay.

Brent (00:32:12 - 00:32:22): He looks like he would fit in in the 1986 Minnesota Twins. As I recall, there was a lot of mullets and mustaches on that team.

Ryan (00:32:22 - 00:32:23): I don’t know if he’s got a mullet.

Brent (00:32:24 - 00:32:26): He’s at least got hockey hair.

Ryan (00:32:27 - 00:32:42): Oh, he’s— well, that’s what— at the very least he’s got hockey because he’s wearing a hat, so it’s sticking out the back. But like, it may not be short in the front. Like, he just may have long hair. Like, that’s— see him wait until he takes his hat off. Maybe they’ll dunk the water bucket on him after the game. We’ll find out.

Brent (00:32:43 - 00:32:44): So back to—

Ryan (00:32:44 - 00:32:45): back to wrestling.

Brent (00:32:45 - 00:33:00): Aleister Black, they let go within a year. I don’t think Jeff Cobb, AKA JC Mateo— I think that’s what his name is in WWE— is like, he— I think he had been there just a year, if that.

Ryan (00:33:00 - 00:33:00): Yeah.

Brent (00:33:01 - 00:33:42): And I didn’t realize that Jeff Cobb’s in his 40s, which now in current wrestling age, that’s not that bad. No, used to be like, like you were out there by— you hit 35, they were starting to look at you gone. But like he’s— he is really good and he never really got a chance to show that off where he was booked in. But I understood, like, it’s one of those things that like both AEW and WWE were interested in him. Yeah, I could see going the WWE route just because the money’s probably better. But I don’t know where any of those guys land. However, the New Day— well, so they’re not in AEW. I will be very surprised.

Ryan (00:33:42 - 00:34:03): Yeah, no, for sure. Like, right there, like, I could see the Motor— Motor City Machine Guns and the— and the New Day getting signed to AEW to be added into the tag team mix. But let’s say, I almost say, if it’s— if you’re only gonna be able to sign one of the two, New Day, then I would sign New Day because you can also do them singles.

Brent (00:34:03 - 00:34:43): Yeah, yeah, very much so. And And there’s already built-in history with the Bucks and Kenny and, and the, and like dream matches of, because both those guys have been in WWE system so long that like they, while they were like, it’s one of those weird things. Like even with some of the older guys who are former WWE guys, Edge and Christian, for instance, while they were there, when both guys were there, they, they were never there while those guys were a tag team or they’re on the roster. At the same time. So there’s that possibility. There’s the box.

Ryan (00:34:44 - 00:34:46): Okay, 90 days from last week.

Brent (00:34:46 - 00:34:49): So they will be available for Wembley in beginning of May.

Ryan (00:34:49 - 00:34:58): So yeah, May, June, July. So May to June, June, July, uh, yeah, May to June, June, July, July.

Brent (00:34:59 - 00:35:21): I don’t know, unless they have one of those stipulations where they can like, they can opt out right away and sign. Yeah, but if you do, I don’t know that’s one of those things that you can do anymore. Yeah, because that, that was a thing originally. The 90 days was you got paid for 90 days, but you could waive it and just jump right into a new contract.

Ryan (00:35:21 - 00:35:38): Yeah, but no, sorry, I, I did my figuring wrong. Yeah, they’d be available beginning of August. Yeah, that’d be the 90 days. So yeah, they’d be available for Wembley. But I just kind of think like if Yeah, so, well, depending on what happens next weekend or in 2 weeks, Edge and Christian may not be allowed to tag team together anymore.

Brent (00:35:38 - 00:35:39): Yeah, they’re—

Ryan (00:35:39 - 00:35:47): sorry, Adam and— Adam and Christian. Yeah, but if they are, or— yeah, having the New Day versus, you know, Adam—

Brent (00:35:47 - 00:36:01): Adam— well, that might— that might be one of those things that they, they change plans around. If you know that the New Day are coming in, that’s like, okay, let’s, let’s, let’s take a look at the overall roadmap and maybe, maybe we’re adjusting a couple things.

Ryan (00:36:02 - 00:36:12): Or at the very least, if, you know, if Adam is having a retirement match in, you know, in the fall in Toronto or something like that, if it ends up being a tag team match with The New Day—

Brent (00:36:13 - 00:36:20): yeah, that’s not a bad way of going out. Yeah, so the box would be brand new. Oh yeah, for like a match.

Ryan (00:36:20 - 00:36:25): And it’s a match people have been wanting to see for forever, ever since they, you know, with all their video game trash talk.

Brent (00:36:26 - 00:36:32): The, all the, the shame of it is because of Big E being injured. Yeah, it won’t be a 6-man with Kenny.

Ryan (00:36:32 - 00:36:33): No, but then you can—

Brent (00:36:33 - 00:36:35): but they can find somebody else.

Ryan (00:36:35 - 00:36:35): I’m sure.

Brent (00:36:36 - 00:37:26): I’m— and they’re also the ones that, like, I’d be very curious what— because they’ll have a little bit more creative freedom in AEW. I’d be very curious what they do with that freedom. Yeah, because we’ve seen both waves. We’ve seen guys who, like, out of the box do some cool stuff and, like, and continue to do stuff, and then other guys who are just— they’re so used to having some sort of more guidance than they had that they flounder, which there’s nothing wrong with either way of those. It’s just, it’s, you know, it’s a different way of doing things. And then other things were like, it got cut off at the knees for one reason or another, like Rusev’s Redeemer character. It sounded like that was creative input from his side and like it was going really strong and then he just sort of disappeared.

Ryan (00:37:26 - 00:37:28): Yeah, it just fizzled out and just—

Brent (00:37:29 - 00:37:37): and I don’t, I don’t know if I— that’s one of those things that I think there’s like two— there’s both him and booking are to be blamed on that.

Ryan (00:37:37 - 00:37:39): There’s a story there that we’ll never hear. We’ll get—

Brent (00:37:39 - 00:37:41): yeah, we’ll hear it eventually.

Ryan (00:37:41 - 00:37:43): It’ll be one of those Dark Side of the Ring episodes.

Brent (00:37:45 - 00:37:46): So yeah, yeah.

Ryan (00:37:46 - 00:37:53): So that’s Wrestling Talk with Ryan and Brent. Yep, get more of that. Join— come join us on a Wednesday maybe.

Brent (00:37:54 - 00:37:58): And yeah, you haven’t watched the Hogan documentary, right?

Ryan (00:37:58 - 00:38:16): No, I have not watched the Hogan documentary. The one thing I did see somebody make a comment, I don’t know if it was on a story or if it was on your post, that the, the Hogan documentary will lead to one really great season of Behind the Dark Side of the Ring or whatever.

Brent (00:38:18 - 00:38:19): Yeah, it could.

Ryan (00:38:19 - 00:38:28): They could easily make a season just talking about— I don’t know, part of me is, uh, what, you know, his stories and what’s real and what’s not.

Brent (00:38:28 - 00:41:02): Part of me feels they should, uh, if Dave Meltzer was smart and wants to put additional Patreon content out there, just him doing an audio commentary track during the show fact-checking things. Oh yeah, because it’s, um, I even— our not— our casual wrestling listeners on the show know of my distaste of Mr. Hulk Hogan. Yeah, for multiple reasons. And the, the most frustrating thing about this Netflix documentary on him is that it gets close and then he like— his— them sticking to the Hogan side of the story kind of ruins what could have been an amazing documentary. They, they don’t have enough pushback from people, at least in the— now it is co-produced by WWE, so that shouldn’t have surprised me. But there’s things in it that do surprise me in it. Like Jesse Ventura is interviewed all over the thing, but they never talk about the, the union and how Hogan or the potential union and how Hogan squashed that. Not even to get Hogan’s side of the story. No, because I don’t know how much Hogan’s ever actually talked about it. There’s stuff like that, and there, there are moments where you really— I think you really see the— and they talk about it this way, that you see Terry Bollea in certain parts of it, but you almost question it because of the amount of bullshit he shoveled over the years. Yeah, like there is some stuff that he talks about, about his dad and his, his parents that definitely hits kind of close to home where you, you see, I think, the closest that you ever see to the real person behind Hulk Hogan in, in that. There, there’s another thing where he talks about his brother that I didn’t know he had who like dies of a drug overdose, or at least according to the storyline. Like, that is the story that’s presented there. I’ve never heard about him or researched it or anything. So I’d like— but how it’s presented and how Hogan talks about him is like, I kind of don’t doubt that like that’s how it all goes down and it definitely kind of affected him. But there’s, you know, there’s some glaring people missing or parts of the story that’s not talked about or, or skipped over.

Ryan (00:41:02 - 00:41:02): Yeah.

Brent (00:41:03 - 00:41:23): Um, one of his best friends for so many years, uh, Ed Leslie, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, they had a falling out at one point. You see him briefly at Hogan’s funeral. That’s it. I don’t know if they talked to him and they just edited him out for whatever reason, because also, you know, on other sides, wrestlers can be wrestlers.

Ryan (00:41:23 - 00:41:23): Yeah.

Brent (00:41:24 - 00:43:22): Um, the one thing I will give it, the last episode, which is about the basically Um, from after he kind of leaves, uh, WWE for— from that last sort of run, and then— or like goes into that last run at WWE, the one where like Shawn Michaels is goofing on him and doing like overselling in a match, and but goes into like his TNA stuff briefly and all this other— and like the, the Hogan Knows Best, like that, that seems pretty close to like being authentic. But there’s like, there’s just stuff that where he can’t help himself, or I guess he’s built this narrative for himself over the years. Like the, like he decided to go back to wrestling as opposed to making movies and TV shows because he was getting stir crazy. Like it’s like, you know, you’re sitting in your trailer for 5 hours and Yeah, it’s got nothing to do with the fact that like none of his movies are hits and like half of them went straight to video and stuff like that, or Thunder in Paradise got canceled. Like, it— like, it’s that stuff. Like, had he been more honest about that stuff, it would have made a better thing. Like, there’s a one part where he, um, he talks about when he should have quit, like, wrestling period, and that basically he’s like And I feel it’s actually a genuine thought is that he says that after the, the match with The Rock at the SkyDome, that Mania is when he now feels that’s when he should have been done. He should have stopped there and that would have cemented kind of his legacy. And he’s not wrong. Yeah. And then he follows it up with bullshit about like, but like, you know, like McMahon calls me up and says, we got to ride this one out, brother. And like all this other stuff, which I’m like, is partially true, but like, eh, how much is it?

Ryan (00:43:22 - 00:43:30): You know, how much is it? Was it Vince instigated the phone call? Did he— was it him telling Vince, oh no, we gotta run this with this brother?

Brent (00:43:31 - 00:44:06): Like, I will say, the one of the best parts of the last episode is Werner Herzog doing the in— like, the start of the episode. The, um, you would know him from The Mandalorian, from the first season. Let Let me see the baby. Okay, yeah, that guy, he is a very well-known documentary filmmaker and is like director as well. Um, he is also like the probably most articulate wrestling fan you will ever— he’s spoken about wrestling before, that he uses it as kind of his barometer on society kind of thing.

Ryan (00:44:06 - 00:44:06): Okay.

Brent (00:44:06 - 00:44:38): And he, oh, like he opens the last episode with basically this almost like poetic monologue about, like, he wonders how much of Terry Bollea is, is left within the shell of Hulk Hogan and stuff. Is it like a beautiful, like, piece? Make it like— I hope to God at some point they release that full interview because they took— like, it just definitely wasn’t just that too, because they talked— they must have talked to him for a little bit.

Ryan (00:44:38 - 00:44:43): Well, I was gonna say, if you get someone like that to sit down to talk, you know, He’s going to go on and you’re going to let him.

Brent (00:44:43 - 00:45:30): Yeah. Because he shows up a little bit later at the end. Like they even said, do you know what Hulk Hogan’s real name is? He’s like, no, and I don’t really want to know. And then laughs because he is like, he sees it kind of as like Greek theater and stuff like that. The other thing I learned from that show more than anything else is we should all be so lucky to have a friend like Jimmy Hart. Jimmy Hart says nothing bad about the dude, is super positive about everything, and like, motherfucker has a huge house because he’s waiting for the— like, when he appears for the first time, he’s waiting outside, of course, of the gates to let them in, and it’s like this palatial, like, Florida mansion.

Ryan (00:45:31 - 00:45:31): Is—

Brent (00:45:32 - 00:45:38): I know, like, I, I don’t know, I think He was in a band called the Gentries.

Ryan (00:45:39 - 00:45:42): Yeah, uh, and I remember something about him actually being in a band.

Brent (00:45:43 - 00:46:25): Yeah, like, and like they had one hit that you would recognize from like oldies radio. Yeah, I don’t know if he’s a writer on that song though. Like, it’s one of those things that like he could have made like a good chunk of money off of that. Yeah, he now probably still makes like a good chunk of royalties off of all the WCW music that he wrote for various wrestlers over the years, but He just seems like such an— like, in some ways I’m like, I don’t know if Hogan deserved your friendship, dude. But like, he seemed like a— he seems like a really good dude. And then, uh, yeah, uh, the President of the United States also makes the documentary, by the way. And it’s Hall of—

Ryan (00:46:25 - 00:46:28): WWE Hall of Fame President of the United States.

Brent (00:46:28 - 00:46:52): Oh, he does it in the White House though. Yeah, like they recorded the interview in the White House. Um, but the, the thing that struck me about it is them talking about one another is like, no wonder they— like, they’re two peas in a pod in a lot of ways. It’s— it really kind of fits. But, uh, yeah. Uh, where are we at time-wise? Should we talk about Daredevil a little bit?

Ryan (00:46:54 - 00:46:59): Yeah, we’re like 45 minutes in. Okay, we can do a little quick recap, you know, our thoughts.

Daredevil: Born Again Finale

Brent (00:47:00 - 00:47:12): I don’t know that Jen hasn’t watched it at all. She’s not interested in it. I don’t know where Kevin is, but yeah, so, um, spoilers may abound here because we’re talking about the last couple minutes or the last couple episodes.

Ryan (00:47:12 - 00:47:16): Yes, so the season’s over. Yep, it’s all done. It’s all available to watch now on Disney Plus.

Brent (00:47:16 - 00:47:17): Yes.

Ryan (00:47:17 - 00:47:21): Um, Luke Cage makes an appearance at the very end.

Brent (00:47:22 - 00:47:23): Yep. Kind of saw that coming.

Ryan (00:47:23 - 00:47:26): Well, yeah, we knew, you know, he was already talked about.

Brent (00:47:26 - 00:47:26): Yes.

Ryan (00:47:27 - 00:47:29): Um, we— she’s back in her office.

Brent (00:47:30 - 00:47:30): Yeah.

Ryan (00:47:31 - 00:47:33): So like, she’s back in New York.

Brent (00:47:33 - 00:47:38): I hope she wasn’t paying rent for it the entire time and not using it, because that’s New York money. That’s, that’s a—

Ryan (00:47:38 - 00:47:39): oh, although it’s Hell’s Kitchen.

Brent (00:47:40 - 00:47:43): And we’ve also— yeah, but Hell’s Kitchen now is in a like—

Ryan (00:47:43 - 00:47:47): well, now gentrified neighborhood in our New York, maybe not in their New York.

Brent (00:47:48 - 00:47:58): And I always say, and you and I have discussed this before, I assume rent prices in Marvel New York are actually pretty cheap because, you know, you never know when Galactus is going to step on your building.

Ryan (00:47:58 - 00:48:08): Well, just think of any of these superheroes. I would not want to live in one of these major metropolitan cities because you are probably— Mole Man coming up out of the— out of your basement.

Brent (00:48:08 - 00:48:18): Yeah. Like, you’re probably safest in, in Canada and like, yeah, Middle America. But even then, you never know what’s going to crash land into your state.

Ryan (00:48:19 - 00:48:22): Yeah, or who’s— you know, your cornfield might get nuked.

Brent (00:48:22 - 00:48:22): Yeah.

Ryan (00:48:23 - 00:48:29): Um, but so going back to Matthew Lillard, we see him on a plane.

Brent (00:48:29 - 00:48:30): Yep.

Ryan (00:48:30 - 00:48:30): With Bullseye.

Brent (00:48:31 - 00:48:41): Yes. Now it’s, it’s insinuated that Luke Cage has been working abroad for the government.

Ryan (00:48:41 - 00:48:41): Yeah.

Brent (00:48:41 - 00:48:50): As part of a deal. And that Bullseye is now taking his spot in said actions.

Ryan (00:48:51 - 00:49:06): So does this lead to either, you know, the forming of a, you know, it may not— no, probably Defenders, uh, not— well, like, we already have the Defenders people coming together for next season of Daredevil anyway.

Brent (00:49:07 - 00:49:07): So we hear.

Ryan (00:49:07 - 00:49:09): Sorry, the Netflix Defenders.

Brent (00:49:10 - 00:49:10): Yes.

Ryan (00:49:11 - 00:49:27): Um, but no, do we get a Dark Avengers? Like, do— does he become— like, do we get a Bullseye as Dark Hawkeye? Oh, or is it another version of the Thunderbolts? The Thunderbolts. Um, yeah, Thunderbolts.

Brent (00:49:27 - 00:49:30): Yeah, Thunderbolts. Well, they’re, they’re still Thunderbolts.

Ryan (00:49:30 - 00:49:35): Yeah, yeah, because they were Thunderbolts. They’re not— you know, the, the other Thunderbolts are the New Avengers.

Brent (00:49:35 - 00:49:39): Oh, right, got it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, because that was the more realistic—

Ryan (00:49:39 - 00:49:47): because the, the Thunderbolts that were, you know, a government a team of bad guys that Luke Cage was on for a while.

Brent (00:49:48 - 00:49:56): Yeah, well, so we have a bunch of different things going on here. Uh, Fisk is no longer mayor.

Ryan (00:49:56 - 00:49:58): Yep, he’s on the beach somewhere.

Brent (00:49:58 - 00:50:00): He’s on a beach somewhere, at least for the time being.

Ryan (00:50:00 - 00:50:00): Yep.

Brent (00:50:01 - 00:50:03): Uh, Matt Murdock is in prison.

Ryan (00:50:04 - 00:50:06): Yep, or at least he’s going to jail.

Brent (00:50:06 - 00:50:12): Jail for, for now. I guess if he gets convicted, he he goes to prison, which goes into a theory you have about Spider-Man.

Ryan (00:50:12 - 00:50:12): Yep.

Brent (00:50:13 - 00:50:29): Um, and that— so famously Bendis finished his— this actually lines up because he is listed as like a consulting producer on Daredevil: Born Again.

Ryan (00:50:29 - 00:50:29): Okay.

Brent (00:50:30 - 00:51:16): Now I don’t know if that’s a leftover from the Netflix days where he was part of that consortium of comic book writers that they, they had on staff as like their brain trust. Or if he was actively involved in the season. Because famously, when he finished his run on Daredevil, he puts Matt in prison, which he— which, if I’m not mistaken, Brubaker didn’t know about and was taking over the book and had to throw out like his original, like, plans. Because now he had to spend a time figuring out what to do with Matt in prison and how to get him out of there. Now, as part of that, which ties into, um, I don’t remember the, the actor’s name, but the guy who played Iron Fist in the Netflix show.

Ryan (00:51:17 - 00:51:17): Okay.

Brent (00:51:18 - 00:51:26): Apparently he’s been seen in like, like photo, like behind the set photos of season 3 filming.

Ryan (00:51:26 - 00:51:26): Yeah.

Brent (00:51:26 - 00:51:36): Now here’s the thing. Now, comic books and snaps and all that can erase that. He didn’t— he outright die at the end of the last season of Iron Fist.

Ryan (00:51:37 - 00:51:41): I have no idea. I don’t, I don’t, I don’t think I watched it.

Brent (00:51:41 - 00:52:22): I know Colleen Wing becomes Iron Fist at the end of it. That much I remember, because that’s the only reason I went back and finished that season, because I, like, somebody told me that. I’m like, oh, that’s actually kind of interesting, because I didn’t get that far in season 2 before I went, nah. Now that can be easily changed, but That thing about that storyline that Brubaker does with Matt being in prison as Daredevil is part of, I think if I remember correctly, part of how they like end up getting it thrown out is Daredevil starts running around Hell’s Kitchen and it’s Iron Fist in the Daredevil costume.

Ryan (00:52:23 - 00:52:23): Okay.

Brent (00:52:23 - 00:52:25): He asked for a favor and that’s—

Ryan (00:52:26 - 00:52:42): Like when, uh, in the 90s animated Spider-Man cartoon, uh, Spider-Man shows up in the courtroom while Peter Parker is on trial for something. Yeah, there’s also— and it’s Daredevil in Spider-Man costume.

Brent (00:52:42 - 00:52:52): Exactly. So that, like, that old chest— you could really play with that, some sort of stuff. But that also— did we talk about your actual theory with Spider-Man in the trailers?

Ryan (00:52:53 - 00:52:55): Uh, we may have mentioned it, but we’ll—

Brent (00:52:55 - 00:52:57): so let’s go over it again next.

Ryan (00:52:57 - 00:53:11): We’ll Before you can get into that, next week— oh yeah, one last kill. From a lot of the reports we’re seeing, I’m seeing online, uh, this could lead directly into Spider-Man.

Brent (00:53:11 - 00:53:14): Should. We’ve seen him in the trailer for Spider-Man, so it makes sense.

Ryan (00:53:15 - 00:53:43): This could be a return to the— hey, the, the short, the one-shot, the TV Disney+ thing. Is very connected to the next upcoming movie, or the movie that you’re gonna— yeah, what some— one report I read is they almost wondering, is this gonna be must-watch? Now, I don’t— it’s, it’s Punisher, it’s not a Spider-Man prequel. Yeah, I don’t see us seeing Spider-Man in this.

Brent (00:53:43 - 00:53:51): And there is limitations to what Marvel can use in terms of Spider-Man exactly in that stuff, so some other deals have been worked out that nobody’s talked about. About.

Ryan (00:53:52 - 00:53:56): Yeah, so I doubt it’ll— so it’ll be like, yeah, a must-read to know what’s going on in Spider-Man.

Brent (00:53:57 - 00:53:57): Yeah, but—

Ryan (00:53:58 - 00:54:45): or not a must-read, a must-watch. But it’ll probably be a must-watch if you want to know what’s going on with the Punisher when we see him in Spider-Man. It’ll probably explain how did we get from watching him escape custody, not seeing him again for the rest of the season, and now he’s got his own one-shot and he’s in a movie. But so my theory, and it’s not my theory, I saw it somewhere else, and it’s like, but you know, I did originally, but it’s like, it makes sense. So we’ve got this, we’ve seen the hand showing up in these trailers, or at least it really looks like if it’s not the hand, it’s red ninjas, and in the Marvel Universe that usually means them, unless it’s another red herring, and when we watch the movie, watch the movie, they’re not red, they’re black. And then it could be Mr. Negative’s.

Brent (00:54:46 - 00:54:52): Oh yeah, he does have— and isn’t there reports that he’s like one of the characters in this?

Ryan (00:54:52 - 00:55:00): There is reports that he’s supposed to be in this movie, so I could totally see them do that. But as it is right now, they’re, they’re in red, which tells me Red Hand.

Brent (00:55:00 - 00:55:00): Yep.

Ryan (00:55:01 - 00:55:08): Um, which is associated with Daredevil, who’s in jail right now. Yep. We see ninjas fighting Spider-Man in a prison.

Brent (00:55:08 - 00:55:09): In a prison.

Ryan (00:55:09 - 00:55:12): Why is Spider-Man in this prison fighting ninjas?

Brent (00:55:13 - 00:55:13): Yes.

Ryan (00:55:14 - 00:55:16): Is he there to protect Daredevil?

Brent (00:55:16 - 00:55:17): One of the inmates?

Ryan (00:55:18 - 00:55:19): Possibly.

Brent (00:55:19 - 00:55:22): Hey, Murdock’s appeared in Spider-Man before, so it’s not out of the—

Ryan (00:55:22 - 00:55:27): They have, at least Peter knows who he is and has a connection to Matt Murdock.

Brent (00:55:27 - 00:55:28): And now he’s like—

Ryan (00:55:28 - 00:55:29): And now he knows who he is.

Brent (00:55:29 - 00:55:40): Unveiled it, yeah. And there is that thing, I can’t remember if it’s you or I saw it elsewhere. Was that when you see that scene in the prison where Spidey is jumping towards the ninjas—

Ryan (00:55:41 - 00:55:52): well, that’s outside. That’s what the other one is. That was a rooftop picture where it’s like lots of ninjas and one Spider-Man and lots of empty space around Spider-Man because they—

Brent (00:55:52 - 00:56:01): like they did that on the last Spider-Man movie. They deleted Tobey Maguire and, uh, what’s-his-face out of the trailer images. Andrew Garfield. Yes.

Ryan (00:56:02 - 00:56:27): They deleted Spider-Man out of the Civil War trailers when the two teams are facing each other. Oh right, when they were running out, when they’re running in, you see the bodies, he wasn’t there. Yeah, we see Hulk running around in the, in the first, uh, Infinity War trailer in that fight, but it wasn’t Hulk in the end, it was Banner, the Hulkbuster armor.

Brent (00:56:27 - 00:56:28): Hulkbuster armor. Yeah.

Ryan (00:56:29 - 00:56:31): They’re not beyond, uh, editing.

Brent (00:56:31 - 00:56:55): Yeah, and the, the Thor Ragnarok trailer had a lot of stuff that was color-coded differently and placed in certain orders. Like, all those scenes are in the movie, but they’re— a lot of them were used very differently. Yeah, so they’re, they’re not above throwing that stuff in there. But maybe it’s somebody else in prison. Yeah, well, that’s where I don’t know who else would work. Vulture, maybe?

Ryan (00:56:55 - 00:57:16): Maybe. Um, a lot of the talk of one of the story points is that, uh, the young lady from, um, from Stranger Things that’s in this one, the redhead, is playing Jean Grey, and that she’s the person that we see in kind of a trench coat.

Brent (00:57:16 - 00:57:16): Yeah.

Ryan (00:57:17 - 00:57:45): And that part of the story is she’s being held— she’s, you know, it’s mutant, it’s Jean Grey— she’s being held by Damage Control and either breaks out, gets broken out. And there’s like, there’s the scenes where you have to go through the trailer, it looks like there’s like a building explosion or something that, that could be a result of her, or like she could be— I’m guessing being used, I would assume being manipulated by the bad guy.

Brent (00:57:45 - 00:57:45): Yeah.

Ryan (00:57:46 - 00:58:02): Because I don’t see her being the bad guy because that’s, that’s not Jean Grey. But, um, if she is Jean Grey in this movie, that’s interesting. And then who knows, maybe she’s one of the floaty— maybe she’s floating, doing the hovering Jean Grey style above Spider-Man.

Brent (00:58:03 - 00:58:15): That also could be— yeah, that’s a possibility, I suppose. Oh, I don’t know, part of me feels that they’re not doing any X-Men stuff until after Doomsday is out there. But I could be wrong.

Ryan (00:58:16 - 00:58:20): Yep, she could be one of Spider-Man’s amazing friends. She could get all—

Brent (00:58:20 - 00:58:21): she could be Firestar.

Ryan (00:58:21 - 00:58:21): She could be.

Brent (00:58:22 - 00:58:22): That’d be interesting.

Ryan (00:58:22 - 00:58:25): Redhead. She could be Mary Jane Watson.

Brent (00:58:27 - 00:58:29): Oh, an actual Mary Jane?

Ryan (00:58:29 - 00:58:38): Yeah, because Zendaya is not Mary Jane. That her friends should call her MJ, but it wasn’t Mary Jane.

Brent (00:58:38 - 00:58:40): What was it? What did it stand for?

Ryan (00:58:40 - 00:58:40): I Yet.

Brent (00:58:40 - 00:58:42): Now it’s been so long since I’ve seen, watched that movie.

Ryan (00:58:43 - 00:58:45): Yeah. So this is the first one.

Brent (00:58:45 - 00:58:56): Yeah. Um, overall the season was really good and sets the table for a real interesting second season and possibly for a real interesting bit of Spider-Man.

Ryan (00:58:57 - 00:59:01): Real interesting third season.

Brent (00:59:01 - 00:59:04): Was this, this wasn’t season 1. Oh, third season. This was season 2. Yeah. You’re right.

Ryan (00:59:04 - 00:59:11): Third season. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I know my memory is not the greatest, but yes, this was season 2.

Brent (00:59:11 - 00:59:27): And, and I will now go back on my, my quasi-theories from before, is like, I think whoever the mayor we see in the trailers for Spider-Man, that’s the, the mayor that is in there. Well, they’re not hiding Luke Cage, they’re not hiding Murdock, obviously.

Ryan (00:59:28 - 00:59:31): So yeah, it’s a new, new mayor because he’s gone. Yeah, yeah.

Brent (00:59:31 - 00:59:36): Like, it, it, that’s not a red herring. I think that scene is as we saw it.

Ryan (00:59:36 - 00:59:42): Yeah. Um, oh, what’s, what’s, what’s her name? Um, I had it and I lost it.

Brent (00:59:42 - 00:59:49): I feel at the end of Spider-Man, or during the movie, where I do think that Luke Cage might be running for mayor.

Ryan (00:59:50 - 00:59:51): I wouldn’t be surprised.

Brent (00:59:51 - 01:00:01): Like, they’ll put like, like posters in the background, like stuff, or like, that could be a story point for season 3. Of Daredevil.

Ryan (01:00:01 - 01:00:02): Yeah, yeah.

Brent (01:00:02 - 01:00:14): But I mean, they’re going to start— but like, because you know how American elections are, is there’s no mayor now, they’ve got a temporary mayor, and then in 3 months they got to start the election, and then in 3 months after that they actually elect somebody.

Ryan (01:00:14 - 01:00:19): Oh yeah, but I guess it all comes down to in the timeline, when does Spider-Man take place versus the next season.

Brent (01:00:20 - 01:00:21): Yeah, I suppose, right?

Ryan (01:00:21 - 01:00:30): Because if there’s not much of a time gap between now and, you know, for the Spider-Man movie, or how much of a time gap is there between season 2 and season 3.

Brent (01:00:32 - 01:00:43): So they— do you think they keep these street-level guys still separate in Doomsday? Like, I’m— Spider-Man’s going to show, show up, but do you think we see Luke Cage, for instance?

Ryan (01:00:44 - 01:01:03): Or I could see them, but they won’t have a big role. Like, we’ll see them and maybe like they’re— they get— everything goes red and they get— or it’s what, you know, in, in Maybe not in Doomsday, but maybe we see them in Secret War, and it’s like when it’s a— if it’s a whole Battleworld mashup thing, it’s—

Brent (01:01:03 - 01:01:31): yeah, I, I still feel that was one of the missed opportunities due to company politics in, uh, uh, not Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War. Yeah, is that like when we see Thanos’s guys all over the place, yeah, that we just don’t have a quick New York scene where like Daredevil saving somebody and Luke Cage is punching an alien in the face. Yeah, like it was, it was there for the taking, and because of company politics at the time, it didn’t happen.

Ryan (01:01:31 - 01:01:37): Yeah. Um, we also see— is it— what’s it— White Panther? Is that— oh no, White Panther.

Brent (01:01:37 - 01:01:38): White Tiger.

Ryan (01:01:38 - 01:01:49): White Tiger in action, kind of cat jumping and clawing at people. So it’s like, okay, she has activated the medallion, she is having some kind of air quotes powers now.

Brent (01:01:50 - 01:01:50): Yep.

Ryan (01:01:50 - 01:01:51): And she’s picking up the mantle.

Brent (01:01:52 - 01:01:52): Young Avengers.

Ryan (01:01:53 - 01:01:55): Another Young Avenger. Yep.

Brent (01:01:55 - 01:02:04): Because I’m sure there’s a couple characters from the actual Young Avengers run that they won’t be able to use, or for various reasons, or don’t want to use. So put her in there. That’s not bad.

Ryan (01:02:04 - 01:02:04): Fault.

Brent (01:02:07 - 01:02:13): Yeah. Alrighty, so that is it for, uh, this episode.

Patreon and Community

Ryan (01:02:14 - 01:02:15): That was a good one. I had fun.

Brent (01:02:15 - 01:02:17): Yeah, it’s always fun when it’s just you and I.

Ryan (01:02:18 - 01:02:20): It’s always fun when the rest of the other ones are here too.

Brent (01:02:20 - 01:02:22): Yeah, I know, but now we’re—

Ryan (01:02:22 - 01:02:25): but when it’s just us, it’s just another, you know.

Brent (01:02:27 - 01:02:56): Um, before we go, a couple things. First off, patreon.com/truenorthnerds if you would like to, uh, give us $3 in order to, uh, you know, help us out. It’s much appreciated. In fact, uh, a good chunk of money went to our friend Kyle Stevens at Kirby Crackle for our annual, uh, song Renewal. He probably has seen the $100 show up in his bank account and is unsure where it comes from because I didn’t even talk to him this year. Just sent him the money.

Ryan (01:02:57 - 01:02:57): Nice.

Brent (01:02:57 - 01:03:29): Um, but, uh, as part of that you get some, uh, exclusive Patreon material. Uh, one is an old show called Kung Fu Island. Uh, season 2 is in the works, still in the works, but, uh, some of us have busier schedules than others. But we hope to get it done. In the meantime, there’s also Listen to This, music nerd program with myself and Alex. The latest episode went up on the Friday previous to this show going out. So if you would like to check that out, it’s about musical team-ups.

Ryan (01:03:30 - 01:03:30): Oh, nice.

Brent (01:03:30 - 01:03:43): Where it’s at least two musicians or two bands teaming up on a track together, but not necessarily a mashup. Or one doing the other one’s style. It’s like they’re kind of distinctive.

Ryan (01:03:44 - 01:03:44): Okay.

Brent (01:03:44 - 01:04:25): So if you would like a preview of that, you can go to our Facebook page where I put up the playlist for the episode as well. So you can hear all the music, and then if you want to hear Alex and I rant about it for over an hour, then go over and pay $3. You also get a shout out from us and shoutouts go to Alex, Drew, Karina, Team Woods, who is working on our brand spanking new website as we speak. Uh, Team Woods, uh, Mike Hammond, Mike Hammond from, uh, Maple Printing. Maple Printing. Yep. And Rex.

Ryan (01:04:26 - 01:04:27): Can’t forget Rex.

Brent (01:04:27 - 01:04:28): Can’t forget Rex.

Ryan (01:04:28 - 01:04:30): Never. He won’t let us. He’s—

Brent (01:04:30 - 01:04:39): he has his own little section on the website. Yeah, he was quite impressed with that. He did not know how to kind of take it a little bit.

Ryan (01:04:40 - 01:04:43): He’s at a sports event this evening.

Brent (01:04:43 - 01:04:46): Yes, he has gotten into the Ottawa teams.

Ryan (01:04:46 - 01:04:46): Yep.

Brent (01:04:48 - 01:04:51): Which means, does that mean you hate Rex during hockey season?

Ryan (01:04:51 - 01:05:25): No, why? It’s Ottawa. No, hey, this year it was Maple Leafs, so I didn’t even pay attention. Until they won the— until, until they— yeah, until they hired Mats Sundin to be their new executive senior operation person. Yeah, not president, but like senior title. And then some— this— it’s gonna be interesting. This guy they hired as their GM who like, I guess, kind of failed as the GM in Phoenix like, like 10, 15 years ago and hasn’t been in the NHL since.

Brent (01:05:25 - 01:05:25): No.

Ryan (01:05:27 - 01:05:30): Owns a bunch of Wendy’s franchises in Arizona.

Brent (01:05:30 - 01:05:31): Interesting.

Ryan (01:05:31 - 01:05:36): Yeah. And now is the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs and they own the number 1 pick in this year’s draft.

Brent (01:05:37 - 01:05:37): So we shall see.

Ryan (01:05:37 - 01:05:38): We’ll see what happens.

Geek Picks

Brent (01:05:39 - 01:05:40): Uh, you got a geek pick this week?

Ryan (01:05:40 - 01:05:56): Uh, I do. My geek pick, um, actually I didn’t really have, I tried to think of, did I read something new? Did I do something new? I didn’t. So my geek pick is the cartoon that just finished its new season. Uh, Maul: Shadow Lord.

Brent (01:05:56 - 01:05:57): Oh, that’s a good one.

Ryan (01:05:57 - 01:06:16): It’s a great cartoon if you love Star Wars, even if you’re like not up to date on all the newest Star Wars. Oh my God, look at that baseball hat. We need those, Brent. Sorry, there’s a guy in the stadium in the crowd of the Blue Jays game that has a— he’s wearing a big plastic baseball as a helmet. It looks like he belongs in Spaceballs.

Brent (01:06:16 - 01:06:19): I was going to say it looks like the, the, uh, Spaceballs helmet.

Ryan (01:06:19 - 01:06:39): You just paint it all white and it’s a Spaceball trooper. Um, yeah, the Jays, you know, one out of one. Here we go, come on. Oh, okay, never mind. I thought I was gonna get the strikeout right here at the end. Uh, but yeah, no, Maul, it’s finished its season. We’ll go into it more probably next episode with the rest of the crew if they’ve all watched it.

Brent (01:06:39 - 01:06:39): Yep.

Ryan (01:06:39 - 01:06:47): Um, and we talked about it already, it’s great. If you haven’t watched it, watch it. You don’t need to be up to date on everything Star Wars to be able to—

Brent (01:06:48 - 01:06:50): Episode 10 is Awesome.

Ryan (01:06:50 - 01:06:51): There we go, Blue Jays win.

Brent (01:06:52 - 01:06:52): Woo-hoo!

Ryan (01:06:52 - 01:06:59): 2-0. Complete game shutout. Well, not a complete game, they switched out pitchers every time, but yeah, shutout.

Brent (01:06:59 - 01:06:59): Nice.

Ryan (01:07:00 - 01:07:01): What about you? What’s your geek pick, Brent?

Brent (01:07:02 - 01:07:06): I didn’t have one either. I was hoping I’d come up with this.

Ryan (01:07:07 - 01:07:11): Um, oh, the Hulk Hogan documentary.

Brent (01:07:11 - 01:07:33): No, actually, it’s not a bad watch. It’s very well put together. Just go in If you watch it, go in knowing that he’s full of crap, like in a lot of things, not everything. That’s the frustrating part. If it was everything, you could like easily navigate through it. Yeah, there’s, there’s some things that are, some things that aren’t. Oh, you know what I will go with?

Ryan (01:07:33 - 01:07:34): Oh, what? Okay, go ahead.

Brent (01:07:34 - 01:07:39): Is the Energon Universe 2026 one-shot special.

Ryan (01:07:39 - 01:07:40): Yeah.

Brent (01:07:40 - 01:07:46): If you want a sampling of the Energon Universe comics that Ryan and I have been talking about for the past what, 3 years now?

Ryan (01:07:47 - 01:07:48): Yep, it’s coming up on the 3-year anniversary.

Brent (01:07:48 - 01:07:58): Um, and a glimpse into the Mask comic that is coming out shortly, and what’s coming up soon in the other books. Which other books?

Ryan (01:07:59 - 01:08:01): Well, the other Energon Universe. Like, it’s a teaser into what’s going on.

Brent (01:08:01 - 01:08:15): I thought, I thought you meant something specifically like that I wasn’t referencing, and I’m like, wait, what is there something going on? Um, yeah, and it’s got like teases for— it’s laying the groundwork Yeah, because a lot of it is like jumps into the future of stuff.

Ryan (01:08:15 - 01:08:15): Yeah.

Brent (01:08:16 - 01:08:19): Um, and I also, I have a theory about the Transformers one a little bit.

Ryan (01:08:19 - 01:08:20): Okay.

Brent (01:08:20 - 01:08:44): Um, but there’s like a bit for Transformers, there’s a Zartan story in it. Um, but yeah, it’s, it’s really cool. Uh, it was a Free Comic Book Day book. If you missed out on those ones, there is an actual like retail version of it as well. Um, go to Big B, uh, go to our store, uh, we have tons, so you could purchase one there.

Ryan (01:08:44 - 01:08:44): There you go.

Brent (01:08:44 - 01:08:53): Um, but yeah, um, it sprung to mind too because, uh, our, our favorite, one of our favorite comic artists, Daniel Warren Johnson.

Ryan (01:08:53 - 01:08:53): Yes.

Brent (01:08:53 - 01:08:54): You follow him on Instagram?

Ryan (01:08:55 - 01:08:55): Yeah.

Brent (01:08:55 - 01:08:58): You saw that he’s, uh, showing off what he’s doing next?

Ryan (01:08:59 - 01:08:59): No, I didn’t.

Brent (01:08:59 - 01:08:59): Finally.

Ryan (01:09:00 - 01:09:03): No, my, my Instagram feed wasn’t working when I tried to go on it earlier.

Brent (01:09:03 - 01:09:06): Okay, so it’s a, it’s science fiction.

Ryan (01:09:06 - 01:09:07): Okay.

Brent (01:09:07 - 01:09:16): I’m— he doesn’t say— it shows some images of spaceships. They don’t look familiar to me. My guess is this is his next, like, creator-owned book.

Ryan (01:09:16 - 01:09:20): Oh, so fall Space Mullets 2, maybe.

Brent (01:09:21 - 01:09:25): I don’t think so, uh, but, uh, fall of this year.

Ryan (01:09:25 - 01:09:25): Nice.

Brent (01:09:26 - 01:09:47): Yeah, and like, I’m stoked because like, I very rarely do this, listeners, but— and Ryan does it a little bit more than I do, but they’ve come— they’re coming out with, uh, they’re re-releasing Do a Powerbomb. Oh, a favorite here at True North Nerds in black and white, and I am rebuying it in black and white.

Ryan (01:09:47 - 01:09:47): Yep.

Brent (01:09:48 - 01:09:50): Speaking of which, the cover— the, the covers are in the system now.

Ryan (01:09:51 - 01:09:53): Okay, so I’ll have to do some pre-orders tomorrow.

Brent (01:09:53 - 01:09:57): Yep. So yeah, uh, Energon Universe Special.

Ryan (01:09:57 - 01:09:58): Nice.

Brent (01:09:58 - 01:10:04): Uh, next week or two weeks from now, we will be talking probably a little bit about Maul.

Ryan (01:10:04 - 01:10:07): Oh wait, when is 2 weeks? Let me do a quick look at the calendar here.

Brent (01:10:07 - 01:10:29): Uh, I think we’re just short of Mandalorian Grogu. Uh, depending on when we see it, maybe it’s that weekend. It’s that weekend, so we may be talking about Mandalorian Grogu. Um, yeah, I’ll— I’m taking my nephew, so that may throw things off a little bit.

Ryan (01:10:30 - 01:10:34): I’m probably going to go see it on the Thursday because I don’t want to wait.

Brent (01:10:35 - 01:10:39): I would like to see it on the Thursday, but like I said, well, I might see it twice.

Ryan (01:10:40 - 01:10:40): Yeah.

Brent (01:10:40 - 01:10:45): Because then I like, then because I have a feeling I’m going to be explaining some stuff to him because he’s young.

Ryan (01:10:45 - 01:10:46): Yeah.

Brent (01:10:46 - 01:11:00): And hasn’t seen The Mandalorian. So he’s seen Star Wars stuff. So, and he really wants to go apparently according to my sister. So I will take him so she doesn’t have to because she’s seen less Star Wars than he has.

Ryan (01:11:00 - 01:11:00): Yes.

Brent (01:11:02 - 01:11:10): Um, but maybe I’ll go see it with you and then take him to see it. That way, uh, like, I, I’m not missing anything from explaining things.

Ryan (01:11:10 - 01:11:22): So we’ll either be talking Mando, Grogu, or maybe Mortal Kombat, because I still kind of want to see that. Yeah, and we’ve heard now from people that you don’t need to watch the first one to watch the second one.

Brent (01:11:22 - 01:11:41): Yep. So actually, I might talk about that with the wife when I get home, see if there’s see when we want to go see that. So yeah, it’s a world of possibilities. Uh, in the meantime, patreon.com/TrueNorthNerds and also truenorthnerds.com. Uh, the, the site is being worked on. It looks really snazzy.

Closing

Ryan (01:11:42 - 01:11:42): Yep.

Brent (01:11:42 - 01:11:46): Um, there’s just some things that’ll be updated, so it’s kind of a work in progress. But, uh, yeah.

Ryan (01:11:47 - 01:11:49): And follow us on Instagram @truenorthnerds.

Brent (01:11:49 - 01:11:59): Yes. And, uh, @TalesFromTheCollectiverse. Yes. So we will talk to you guys in 2 weeks. And until then, abomastay.

Ryan (01:11:59 - 01:12:02): Set your phasers to sexy.
